ASHEBORO NC (ACME NEWS) – A head on collision sent several people to the hospital and now police are looking for a the driver of one of the vehicles who fled the scene on foot.

At 5:39 PM on Friday October 15th 2021, Randolph County 9-1-1 received more than half a dozen calls about a vehicle crash between two vehicles on Old Liberty Rd near Central Falls Rd. Asheboro Police and Fire departments along with Randolph County EMS and later Ash-Rand EMS were dispatched. In total 4 Ambulances (3 from Randolph County EMS and 1 from Ash-Rand) responded to the accident. Baptist Air Care was notified and took off heading to Randolph Hospital to pick up one of the patients but after that patient regained consciousness they were diverted to another accident in Climax where a driver struck a pedestrian. Four people were transported by ambulance and 3 children were taken by parents to the hospital as a result of the accident.

Several 9-1-1 callers reported that a male had left the scene on foot and was walking down Old Liberty Rd. That suspect was gone by the time first responders arrived. Officers with Asheboro Police Department interviewed several witnesses who saw the suspect leave the scene. The accident report says that the plate on the gray Honda did not match the car, and that officers spoke to the owner of the vehicle who said it had not be stolen and he had transferred the title.
