Wanted Suspect Arrested After Chase, Crashing Into Camper, Fleeing Arrest

ASHEBORO N.C. – A wanted suspect who led police on a vehicle chase near Ramseur in which they crashed into a camper before getting away was arrested by the Criminal Apprehension Team this week.

On February 3, 2022, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Deputy on patrol saw a vehicle at a gas station outside of Ramseur that they knew was driven by Randall Ray Burgess, who had outstanding Orders for Arrest.

Police say when the approached the vehicle, Burgess attempted to drive away onto Lee Layne Rd. The deputy attempted to pull the vehicle over for a traffic stop but police say Burgess refused to stop and led police on a pursuit. That pursuit ensued when Burgess turned into a driveway and crashed into a camper.  Burgess then fled on foot and when deputies lost sight of him, Burgess was able to make a clean getaway. 

The deputy who first tried to pull Burgess over obtained a warrant on Burgess for felony flee to elude arrest with motor vehicle, felony failure to stop for blue lights and siren, misdemeanor resisting public officer, misdemeanor injury to personal property, driving while license revoked-not impaired, and reckless driving –wanton disregard.

On February 14, 2022, the Criminal Apprehension Team located Burgess on NC Hwy 22 S., Ramseur.  They also located Brittany Leanne Woods Fisher at the address, who had an outstanding Order for Arrest for Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  Both were arrested and transported to the Randolph County Jail. 

Fisher was served her Order for Arrest and issued a $2,000 secured bond.  A first appearance was set for February 15, 2022, in Randolph County District Court.

Burgess was served his outstanding Warrants for Arrest from the incident on February 3rd.  He was also served his Orders for Arrest for a Probation Violation with a $50,000 preset bond, a Failure to Appear on Misdemeanor Probation Violation Out of County; Failure to Appear on Criminal Summons or Citation for Driving While License Revoked – Impaired Revoked and Operating a Vehicle with No Insurance; and Failure to Appear on Criminal Summons or Citation for Expired Registration Card/Tag, Driving While License Revoked – Impaired Revoked, and Impede Traffic by Slow Speed.  He was issued a $62,000 total secured bond and a first appearance was set for February 15, 2022, in Randolph County District Court.
