ASHEBORO N.C. – Two people were taken to the hospital overnight after crashing into another car while thier vehicle was being shot at according to police.
At around 10:45 pm on April 16th, 2023, officers were called to Coleridge Rd in Asheboro for a report of gunshots fired in the area.
While officers were enroute they were advised that multiple shots had been fired at a vehicle which led to it crashing into another vehicle. 911 operators advised one of the callers said they had been shot and were still in the vehicle, according to a police report.
When police arrived, they found a two-vehicle accident near the intersection of Coleridge Rd and Martin Luther King Jr Dr.
An accident report from the department says that the vehicle was making a right turn off Kemp Blvd onto Coleridge Rd when someone began shooting at the vehicle causing the driver to cross the centerline and strike the side of another vehicle that had just turned onto Coleridge Rd.
Neither of the occupants were struck by gunfire according to Robbie Brown, Assistant Chief of Police at the Asheboro Police Department. Both individuals in the vehicle being shot at were transported by Randolph County EMS to Randolph Hospital with minor injuries related to the crash.
The Asheboro Police Department says the investigation is on-going and no further information is available currently.
