A Randolph County Deputy Chased a Vehicle on Foot, Arrests Driver

ASHEBORO N.C. – A Randolph County Deputy chased a vehicle on foot that was trying to flee and arrested the driver who was likely feeling a bit of déjà vu.

On August 21st, 2023, while performing routine patrol in the area of Little Gate Dr., in Asheboro, a deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office spotted a vehicle parked beside the railroad tracks.

According to a press release the deputy stopped to investigate and located a male subject, identified as Gregory Allen Walker, who was found asleep inside the vehicle.

The deputy woke up Walker, obtained his ID, and went back to his vehicle to run the ID when the Sheriff’s Office says Walker began to drive away on a trail into the woods.

Not able to follow Walker’s vehicle down the train with his patrol vehicle, the deputy pursued the truck on foot until he caught up to the vehicle and ordered Walker out of the vehicle at gunpoint.

Walker was placed under arrest for misdemeanor resisting public officer, misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the Randolph County Jail where another search found methamphetamine on his person.

The magistrate found probable cause for the initial charges and for felony possession of methamphetamine and felony possession of a controlled substance on a jail premise. Walker was issued a $25,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for August 21, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.

Walker was likely feeling a bit of déjà vu during the incident. According to another press release from the Sheriff’s Officer earlier this year, on March 24th, 2023, a Deputy patrolling the area of Little Gate Dr., Asheboro, observed a disabled vehicle and stopped to conduct a welfare check.

The driver, Gregory Allen Walker, was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia and deputies found methamphetamine and marijuana on him and additional marijuana in the vehicle.

Walker was arrested for various drug charges, and according to court records those charges are still pending.

As of the time of this article Walker remains confined at the Randolph County Jail under a $25,000 secured bond.
