ASHEBORO N.C. – Police are on the scene in Asheboro, trying to determine what led to a person arriving at the Emergency Room with a gunshot wound.
Just before 5 p.m. Randolph County 911, dispatched an EMS unit to the intersection of N Elm St and Brewer St, in Asheboro, for a standby for a possible gunshot wound.
Initial unconfirmed reports indicate that an individual arrived at the Emergency Room suffering from a gunshot wound, which may have occurred at a home near the intersection of N Elm St and Brewer St
Police locked down the area where they believe the victim was shot and began a search for a second victim as well as evidence.
The Emergency Room at Randolph Health was put into lockdown, but that lockdown has since been lifted.
Police are still actively investigating the scene. Further information will be provided as it is made available.
UPDATE 8/30/23 2 p.m.
Today, the Asheboro Police Department has confirmed initial reports of a shooting on N Elm St. in Asheboro yesterday.
According to Assistant Chief of Police Robbie Brown, on August 29th, 2023, “Asheboro Police responded to a local medical facility in reference to a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound.”
The victim was listed as alert and stable.
Investigative leads and canvassing by officers determined that the incident occurred at 502 N. Elm St. in Asheboro.
There are no known suspects currently and the incident is under investigation by the Asheboro Police Department Criminal Investigations Division.
