ASHEBORO N.C. – A driver who sped past a police officer last weekend was arrested after being pulled over for speeding once officers realized the driver was intoxicated, with drugs and a gun in the car.
On Saturday July 23rd 2022, a patrol officer with the Asheboro Police Department was about to turn onto North Fayetteville Street when they saw a dark in color passenger car drive past them at a high rate of speed. According to a police report, once the officer caught up to the vehicle they matched their speed with the suspect vehicle they estimated the suspect vehicle to be traveling at 86 mph, almost double the posted speed limit of 45mph.
In the report, that officer says when she finally pulled the vehicle over on Underwood Street and walked up to the front driver side window she stated she was able to smelt a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver’s breath along with red glassy eyes and slowed, slurred speech.
A second officer arrived on the scene who had specialized training in DUI recognition. That officer removed the driver from the vehicle and placed them in handcuffs. Police identified the driver as Mr Rodolfo Flores.
Police say a search of the vehicle located a small white corner baggie that contained marijuana, a black digital scale with marijuana residue on it, a large mason jar containing a large amount of marijuana, and a Glock 43 handgun on the front left passenger floorboard.
Officers Transported Mr Flores to the Randolph County Jail where a breath alcohol test was administered which indicated a BAC of 0.14, almost twice the legal limit on two separate tests.
Flores was charged with DWI, Possession of cocaine, Possession with Intent to Sell/ Deliver Cocaine, Possession of mriuana, Possession wi.th Intent to Sell/ Deliver Marij uana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, carrying a Concealed Weapon, and Exceeding Posted Speed.
The Magistrate found probable cause for the charges and issued MY. Flores a $10, 000 secured bond, along with a court date of July 25, 2022 at the Randolph County Courthouse.
