ASHEBORO N.C. – A police DUI checkpoint last weekend led to several arrests and dozens of citations being written.
In the early morning hours of June 10th, 2023, Asheboro Police, along with Archdale PD, Liberty PD, NC State Highway Patrol, and the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, conducted a DUI checkpoint on W Dixie Dr.
According to Robbie Brown, Assistant Chief of Police with the Asheboro Police Department, the checkpoint led to a total of thirty-three citations being issued.

- 6 – No Operator’s License
- 9 – Driving While License Revoked
- 4 – Registration Violations
- 1 – No Insurance
- 10 – Other Traffic Citations
- 2 – Fugitive Arrested
- 2 – Drug Violations
According to a report, the checkpoint also resulted in a vehicle chase after an officer alleges they witnessed “several traffic violations” from a vehicle that had turned around before entering the checkpoint.
Police say when they attempted to perform a traffic stop on that vehicle it fled leading to a vehicle chase that ended when the driver stopped near I-73/74 and McDowell Rd and attempted to flee on foot before being arrested.
Police identified that driver as Tayron Dworn Spinks who was charged with flee elude with a motor vehicle, failure to head to lights/siren, driving with license revoked, reckless driving, speeding, resisting arrest, and failure to stop at a red light.
In North Carolina police are allowed to conduct checking stations and roadblocks under NC G.S. § 20-16.3A.
