ASHEBORO NC (ACME NEWS) – Two people were taken to the hospital last night after a an Asheboro Police Officer collided with another vehicle while responding to a call.
According to Mark Lineberry, Chief of the Asheboro Police Department, an officer was responding to a domestic call where there was a suspect who was possibly armed with a weapon. The officer was en-route with lights and siren when he was involved in an accident with another driver at the intersection of N Fayetteville St and W Salisbury St.
The other driver’s car ended up on the steps of the First United Methodist Church across the street from Walgreens and the driver had to be freed from the vehicle using hydraulic rescue tools by Asheboro Fire Department. Both drivers were transported to Randolph Hospital. The officer involved was treated and released. The condition of the other driver is unknown at this time, but according to officials, the driver was conscious and alert at the time they were taken to the hospital.
The accident is being investigated by N.C. Highway Patrol according to departmental policy. The report was not yet available at the time of publication.
