[UPDATED] One Shot, Car Stolen In Trinity, Police Issue BOLO

ASHEBORO N.C. – A man was shot and his car stolen this morning in Trinity, and now police are asking the public to be on the look out for a suspect vehicle.

According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office at around 9 a.m. this morning they responded to a call about an assault at the Dollar General on Hwy 62 in Trinity. A 911 caller had reported that the victim had come into the store asking for help stating he had been shot and his car stolen. Randolph County EMS transported the victim to an area hospital.

Police located the victims vehicle abandoned on Sabine St in Trinity. The victim was able to provide a description of the suspect vehicle as a green in color Jeep Cherokee occupied by two suspects. Police say they suspects and motives are unknown at this time and are asking the public to be on the look-out for the suspect vehicle. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 911, or Randolph County Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.

UPDATE: 11/27/21 5 P.M.: Today we learned new details from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office. They say that during their investigation they spoke with witnesses who reported seeing the victim driving at high speed southbound on Hwy 62; apparently being chased by the suspect vehicle prior to the report of this incident. The Sheriff’s Office now says they believe that the victim was shot through the rear window, and that the incident most likely occurred at or near Trindale Foods. The investigation is ongoing and a nyone with information about this incident is asked to call 911, or Randolph County Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous.

UPDATE 12/7/21 5 P.M. – Police have identified and arrested a suspect in connection to the armed car-jacking and shooting last month.

On November 25, 2021, the Randolph County Sheriff’s office sought charges and a Warrant was issued for Derek William Stockwell for Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill.

Over the weekend the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office encountered Stockwell and he was arrested on and transported to the Guilford County Jail where the magistrate issued a $75,000 secured bond and set a first appearance for December 15, 2021, in Randolph County District Court.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says the incident is still under investigation and additional charges may be forthcoming.
