Randolph Community College is hosting two Spring FAFSA Nights this month. The events will be held on Monday, March 13, from 4-7 p.m. at the Asheboro Campus in rooms 111 and 117 of the Business Education Center and on Wednesday, March 15, from 4-7 p.m. at the Archdale Center in rooms 321 and 322 of the Archdale Center. Students needing help completing their FAFSA for 2023-24 and planning to attend RCC or any other college or university should bring their 2021 W-2s and federal tax return (1040) for both parent(s) and student. If so, come out to the annual Easter Eggstravaganza on Saturday, April 1st presented by Asheboro Cultural & Recreation Services. The event is FREE and will take place from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at Bicentennial Park in downtown Asheboro. This event is rain or shine, so if needed bring your umbrellas! Children ages 1-10 are eligible to participate and whether you find one egg or one hundred, everyone gets a goody bag! ASHEBORO N.C. - An officer with the Asheboro Police Department who was called to check on two people slumped over in a car at a McDonald's walked up to an oblivious driver to catch her red handed preparing to use drugs. On February 22nd, 2023, just before 6:30 pm, an officer with the Asheboro Police Department was called to the McDonald's at 1436 N Fayetteville St for a report of a male and female slumped over in a vehicle in the parking lot. The officer arrived and approached the vehicle. In a report the officer noted he saw a male in the passenger seat slumped over. (NC ZOO) - The North Carolina Zoo is excited to officially announce its new male lion, Haji, has arrived.  Haji, three years old and weighing 400 pounds, came from the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans as a companion for the Zoo's female lion Mekita, 13. The Association of Zoos and Aquarium (AZA) Lions Species Survival Plan (SSP) recommended the pairing.   Mekita's last mate—23-year-old Reilly—died in August 2022, leaving her as the Zoo's only lion. Reilly lived at the Zoo for 21 years, spending most of his time as Mekita's mate. ASHEBORO N.C. - A suspect who allegedly robbed a McDonalds in Asheboro didn't make it far before being arrested last weekend. According to a police report from the Asheboro Police Department, on Sunday, Febuary 19th, 2023, just after 9 pm, officers responded to the McDonalds at 773 W Dixie Dr for a report of a robbery in progress. An employee told officers that a black male wearing white shirt, black hoodie, and blue jeans had entered the business and stolen an unknown amount of cash and they believed the male was armed with a handgun. Officers located a suspect matching the description walking through the parking lot of Arby’s, whom they identified as Jamon Trevon Dixon. Dixon was arrested without incident. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Grand Jury has indicted a local man for multiple felonies involving sexual crimes with a minor. On December 29, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received information regarding allegations of sexual offenses involving minors. Following an investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, charges were sought against Christopher Lee Clark for two counts of felony indecent liberties with a child, two counts felony disseminate obscenity, six counts felony first degree statutory sex offense, and misdemeanor assault on a child under 12 years of age.
