Fire Investigator (Acme News Archive) ASHEBORO — A Thomasville woman has turned herself in after being indicted in connection with two house fires that occurred in 2022. According to a press release, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office was called to Jades Way in Thomasville on Aug. 29, 2022, to investigate two separate residential fires at the same location — one that day and another occurring two days earlier on Aug. 27. The Randolph County Fire Marshal’s Office notified the sheriff’s office that the fires were suspicious in nature. The sheriff’s office says following their investigation with the fire marshal’s office, the case was taken to the Randolph County Grand Jury during their March 2024 session. ASHEBORO N.C. — A U.S. Army soldier stationed at Fort Liberty in North Carolina was arrested overnight at a local park in Asheboro, accused of engaging in sexual activity with a minor. Late on Wednesday March 20th, officers with the Asheboro Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at a local park past curfew. According to a press release from the Department, officers found a male, later identified as 27-year-old Eric Timothy Fitch with a 13-year-old juvenile female in the vehicle along with evidence that Fitch had engaged in sexual activity with the female. On Wednesday, March 13th, 2024, Troopers with the NC Highway Patrol responded to a crash on US 64 near Westbury Drive. Investigators say that a black 2017 Lexus RX 350 SUV passed a 2016 Toyota in a turning lane, resulting in a collision that sent the Toyota off the roadway to the right, striking an embankment, and a tree. The Lexus SUV fled the scene. The 38-year-old female driver of the Toyota was transported to Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital for serious injuries. Map from DriveNC According to drivenc.gov a vehicle crash between mile-marker 68 and 69 has shutdown traffic on I-73/74 in both directions in Randolph County at Mile Marker 12, Near Seagrove / New Hope Church Road. Current estimates say the interstate may not reopen until 5 p.m. We are still reaching out to authorities for details of the crash and no information is currently available. According to photos published by Alex Perdue News on Facebook traffic is being diverted off the highway at exit 68 New Hope Church Rd on the southbound lanes. ASHEBORO N.C. – Authorities are searching for a suspect vehicle that fled the scene after being involved in a collision on US 64 in Randolph County Wednesday evening, leaving another driver seriously injured. According to the N.C. Highway Patrol, at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13th, 2024, troopers responded to the report of a crash that occurred on US 64 near Westbury Drive in Randolph County. Randolph County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Roy Clay Williams, 54, for murder on Tuesday February 27th, 2024, after responding to a report of gunshots and finding a woman dead at the residence on Clark Avenue in Franklinville. Williams was being held without bond at Randolph County Jail after being booked just before midnight and appeared in Randolph County District Court this morning.
