ASHEBORO N.C. - A man with 15 outstanding warrants was arrested during a traffic stop on I-73 last week, and things only got worse from there. According to a press release from the the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on March 3rd, 2022, Detectives with the Vice & Narcotics Unit pulled over a vehicle on I-73 North at exit 79. The driver, who they identified as Joseph Adam Spaugh, wanted out of the State of Georgia with full extradition as well as fifteen warrants. Spaugh was placed under arrest. During a search of the vehicle police say they found methamphetamine and paraphernalia. Spaugh was taken to the Randolph County Jail where police say they then found more methamphetamine when jail staff searched him. ASHEBORO N.C. - A woman was arrested after police say she set 5 separate fires in the Asheboro area that all occurred on the same day and in the same area. Police began investigating on March 3rd after fire crews and the Fire Marshal's Office called the Randolph County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations and Crime Scene Division to the scene of a fire on Cedar Grove Drive Extension in Asheboro. Fire crews reported five separate and distinct fires with one spreading to a vacant outbuilding, a second fire ignited three vehicles and the three other fires burned wooded areas. No injuries from the incident. Police began investigating the fires as arson that day. According to a press release by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on March 4th, 2022, a deputy tried to pull over a vehicle near Howard Mill Rd and Bennett Rd. Police say the driver sped up and led police on a short vehicle chase that ended when the driver turned on to Waddell's Ferry Rd. and ended up on the dirt and gravel portion of the road near the Deep River when the vehicle became disabled. The driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot but was apprehended. On March 1st 2022, just before midnight an officer with the Asheboro Police Department responded to the Madison Heights apartments on N Fayetteville Street after getting a call about a burglary in progress. According to a police report the arriving officer spoke with a resident at the apartments who had heard multiple car alarms going off and saw an unidentified male inside of his vehicle. (CITY OF ASHEBORO)- The Asheboro Cultural and Recreation Services Department is providing Blended Learning American Red Cross Lifeguard Training throughout the spring, in preparation for the summer. The cost of the classes are $225.00. Participants must meet and pass all prerequisites set by the American Red Cross. These include being a minimum age of 15, and being able to complete a 300 meter swim, the retrieval and return of a 10 pound object from an 8 foot depth, and a 2 minute tread without the use of hands. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Asheboro Police Department VICE/ Narcotics unit conducted a search warrant at the home of a man on house arrest in Asheboro where they say they found drugs and guns. On Feb 8th 2022, the VICE/Narcotics unit along with the Special Enforcement Team of the Asheboro Police Department executed a search warrant at a home on Lakeview Rd. Police had obtained a search warrant for the home as well as for Jamie Edward York and Laura Elizabeth Dawson. Police say when executing a search warrant they located 3 firearms, including 2 handguns,one of which was determined to be stolen, and a sawed off shotgun. ASHEBORO N.C. - Police arrested a man after they say he traveled to Ramseur to meet a juvenile with the intent to trade money for sex. On February 24, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Team took a report of child sexual solicitation. In a press release they identified the perpetrator as Timothy James Norton of Siler City, NC. Norton was arrested after police say he traveled to Ramseur to meet a juvenile with the intentions of exchanging money for sex.
