Joint Vice/Narcotics Investigation Leads To Two Arrests

ASHEBORO NC - A joint investigation between the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and the Asheboro Police Department has landed two people in jail on felony drug trafficking charges. In a press release, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says their Vice/Narcotics Unit and the Asheboro Police Departments Criminal Interdiction Team conducted a joint investigation into the distribution of Methamphetamine in the Asheboro area. On August 3rd that investigation led to a traffic stop of a car driven by Crystal Lilly Chiappini and Matthew Charles Chiappini, on I-73 in Randleman. Police say a search of the vehicle resulted in officers finding and seizing a trafficking amount of Methamphetamine. ASHEBORO NC – A local man is facing felony charges after crashing a car into his ex's car several times and fleeing the scene.The Randolph County Sheriff's Office says on July 11th, 2021, they were asked by Troopers with the North Carolina Highway Patrol to respond to the area of Old Farmer Road and Oakgrove Road, in Asheboro. Troopers were on the scene of an accident/hit-and-run that had occurred earlier during a domestic confrontation. Police say they discovered that the victim’s vehicle had been intentionally struck by a former romantic partner which caused the victim to crash. ASHEBORO NC - The Randolph County Sheriff's office announced they have made two arrests in cases involving sex crimes against children. On May 19, 2021, deputies received a report of a rape. Investigators assigned to the case were able to find enough evidence for the magistrate to find probable cause for charges against Michael Ray Roberts for two counts of Felony Indecent Liberties with a Child. Roberts was arrested at his residence in Davidson County by the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office and was turned over to Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Detectives at the county line where he was transported the Randolph County jail on July 9, 2021. ASHEBORO NC (NC Zoo Press Release) - The North Carolina Zoo is grieving the loss of Tommo, a beloved grizzly bear who lived at the Zoo for 26 years. The 31-year-old bear's quality of life quickly declined to the point that the Zoo's staff made the difficult decision to euthanize him this week. Tommo arrived at the Zoo in 1995 after being identified as a "nuisance bear" in Yellowstone National Park and relocated twice by the Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks. Nuisance bears have lost their fear of humans because they start to associate people as suppliers of food. This happens when people don’t properly secure their food while out in the wilderness. According to a statement by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on June 5, 2021, one of their deputies tried to stop a car on Ramseur Julian Rd., near Sandy Creek Church Rd. Police say the driver wouldn't pull over and started to lead deputies on a pursuit. ASHEBORO NC - A mother and son are in jail today after police say a confrontation over stolen items led to a shooting in Thomasville. According to the Randolph County Sherriff's Office on June 26th, 2021, at around 10:40 pm, deputies responded to a report of an assault on Stonehenge Road in Thomasville. When they arrived they found a gunshot victim lying in the road on Fuller Mill Road. That victim, who has not been identified, was airlifted from the scene in critical condition. On June 23, 2021, the Sheriff’s Office responded to James River Equipment on US HWY 64 E for a call about larceny. A white male had entered the store, picked up a Honda generator, then ran out of the business with it, before getting into a tan or gold hatchback / Chevrolet Equinox. ASHEBORO NC - The Sherriff's Office's Vice/Narcotics division executed two search warrants last week leading to two arrests. According to the Randolph County Sherriff's Office, on June 17, 2021, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice/Narcotics Unit, along with the Urban Criminal Interdiction Team, concluded an investigation related to the distribution of Heroin in the Sophia / Randleman area. That investigation led to deputies conducting a traffic stop on a vehicle being driven by Alfredo Antonio Palacios, Jr. near Pineview St. in Asheboro, as well as a search warrant being executed on Palacios residence located on Old Marlboro Rd. in Sophia.
