ASHEBORO N.C. - We are still waiting on details from Asheboro Police about what led up to a vehicle chase and manhunt in Asheboro.  The Randolph County Sherriff's office says On June 18, 2021, patrol units and the Criminal Apprehension Team responded to Rock Lane in Asheboro, in reference to an attempt to locate Matthew Lee McDowell, a wanted subject, following a sighting in the area shortly after 5:00 pm. He was located laying in thick brush in an overgrown wooded area behind residences on Westchapel Rd. Jason Edward Brown ASHEBORO N.C. - A man was arrested last Wednesday after police say he stole a car and wallet, then used the victim's ID to identify himself.  According to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on June 16, 2021, deputies responded to the 8100 block of US-64 W. in Trinity, NC, after receiving a call about a stolen car. The victim said the vehicle was stolen on June 11, 2021, between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm and that a wallet containing their ID and a spare key to the vehicle was also taken.  While investigating deputies were told that the High Point Police Department had located the stolen vehicle in their jurisdiction along with the suspect, Jason Edward Brown. ASHEBORO N.C. - Three people were arrested last Wednesday in connection with the theft of catalytic converters in Asheboro. According to the Randolph County Sherriff's Office on June 16, 2021, deputies responded to Old Cox Rd., Asheboro, after receiving a call about a burglary. The victim said someone had attempted to cut the catalytic converter from his vehicle and was able to describe several suspicious vehicles seen in the area. While the deputies were on taking the report, a vehicle matching the description was seen passing by. A deputy was able to catch up with the vehicle and pull it over. ASHEBORO NC - On the night of June 15th the Randolph County Sherriff's office arrested one man for allegedly stealing a car and another for trying to destroy evidence. According to a press release, on June 15, 2021, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Danny Bell Rd for a report of a stolen car. The victim identified Jesse Lee Thompson as the suspect. At around 11:46 pm, deputies located the stolen car at a house in the Poole Rd. area of Archdale. While the deputies were in the home, they saw a crystal-like substance on the table in the kitchen with multiple syringes. (RCSO) - Community leaders, citizens and law enforcement representatives are invited to attend an open house for the jail expansion at 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 27. Tours of the expansion, led by staff members, will be offered to all citizens until 5:00 p.m. Citizens will not come in contact with anyone currently confined at the facility.The jail expansion was approved to address inmate overcrowding and the ultimate need for additional, individual cells to better manage the inmate population. Local law enforcement, including NC Highway Patrol, started the organization to assist families in Randolph County who were in need. "Our organization is given names of children in need by both school systems’ counselors/social workers. We then help Santa shop for those children in Randolph County who will not have a Christmas. The Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and Randleman Police Department opened a joint investigation which led to them obtaining warrants for the arrest of Mr. Gonzalez Fuentes for three counts of Felony Statutory Sex Offense with a child <= 15 on June 2, 2021.
