ASHEBORO N.C. - Two people were arrested after an incident last month where a meetup for an online sale turned into a shootout, leaving one person injured. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on October 27th, 2023, deputies responded to Creekway Ridge, in Asheboro, for a report of a gunshot wound.  When deputies arrived, they located the victim who told investigators that a white male suspect had arrived at the residence to buy items listed for sale online. According to the press release, the suspect “began firing shots” at the seller who “returned fire with a shotgun” before the suspect fled the scene in a black SUV striking a concrete well cap and damaging it.  The victim sustained a small wound to the leg that appeared to be from shrapne...

Temporary Traffic Signal Coming to Highway Intersection Near Megasite

JULIAN N.C. - The N.C. Department of Transportation will be installing a temporary traffic light on the southbound exit ramp for U.S. 421 at Hwy 62 in the coming weeks to help relieve traffic from the Megasite.  In the coming days crews working for N.C. DOT will install a temporary traffic signal at the U.S. 421 Southbound exit ramp with N.C. 62. On Nov. 20th, the new signal will be activated to help mitigate traffic congestion associated with construction at the Greensboro Randolph Megasite. The signal will remain in place until the new interchange at U.S. 421 and Julian Airport Road is completed in August of next year. Motorists are advised to stay alert when approaching the new traffic pattern.

ASHEBORO N.C. - The National Weather Service Office in Raleigh has issued a Freeze Watch for Randolph County for Late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning with temperatures expected to dip into the low 30's. According to forecasters at the National Weather Service Office in Raleigh, a cold front will move through the region tonight, followed by light rain from an upper disturbance overnight through Tuesday evening. High pressure will then build into the area behind the cold front, bringing the coldest air so far this season. Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 possible in Randolph and surrounding counties late Tuesday night through Wednesday morning. Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. UP...

SOPHIA N.C. - Today, the Randolph County Sheriff's Office announced they have filed charges against the father of a two-year-old who suffered an accidental gunshot wound to the leg after getting ahold of a firearm earlier this month. On October 13th 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accidental shooting on Beckerdite Rd. in Sophia. The victim, a two-year-old, had suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was being treated by Guil-Rand Fire when the deputies arrived. An investigation into the incident found that four individuals, two adults and two children, had driven a pickup truck out onto a recently purchased property and walked around before returning to the truck. RANDLEMAN N.C. - A man who was arrested on an outstanding warrant received an additional larceny charge after deputies say he stole a pair of cuffs from the patrol car he was being held in. On October 20th, 2023, a deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff's Office responded to Camellia Ln., in Randleman, for a report of an assault. According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, the responding deputy met with the caller, Jeffrey Corum, and discovered he had an outstanding warrant for felony charges. Corum was escorted to the location of the assault in the patrol vehicle and asked to stay in the car while the deputy spoke to the parties involved. ASHEBORO N.C. – The city of Asheboro has announced its third Annual Gifting Tree Project, and registration is underway for a limited number of trees. Organized by the City of Asheboro's Cultural & Recreation Services, the Gifting Tree Project transforms Bicentennial Park into a dazzling Christmas tree display. Local families, schools, and organizations decorate their trees in a competition to win a donation (provided by Modern Toyota) to the nonprofit of their choice. Want to participate? TRINITY N.C. - A driver is facing felony drug charges and misdemeanor DUI and gun charges after police say they found him and his passenger asleep at an intersection in a running vehicle. On October 20th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff's Office responded to the intersection of NC Hwy 62 and Surrett Dr., in Trinity, for a welfare check on a vehicle stopped at an intersection with the driver slumped over at the wheel. According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, when the deputy approached the vehicle they smelled the "strong odor of marijuana and alcohol emitting from the vehicle and an open bottle of alcohol was observed in the backseat of the vehicle." ASHEBORO N.C. - The city of Asheboro has announced they will be conducting smoke testing of the Sanitary Sewer System in Dixieland Acres and Surrounding areas starting today. In a notice on the city's website, the City of Asheboro says city personnel will be performing sanitary sewer system inspection tests in the Dixieland Acres and surrounding area beginning the week of October 23 (weather permitting). Affected areas generally are between E. Dixie Drive, Zoo Parkway from Atlantic Avenue to Pine Grove Drive, and extending northeast to Timber Lane and Mackie Avenue.
