Late Approval of State Budget to Impact Upcoming Tax Season

Department of Revenue (NC DOR) announced that they won’t begin processing 2021 tax year returns until mid-February, several weeks after the start of the tax season. In a press release NC DOR says the delay is due to the late approval of the state budget, which included multiple changes to the state’s tax law. The later start date allows NC DOR time to complete the updates for new tax laws for commercial tax preparation software. You may be able to submit your state taxes at the same time as your federal taxes but only if your tax preparation software has been updated for the upcoming year. NC DOR says early submissions will be considered as filed on the date transmitted, even though there will be a delay in processing. ...

ASHEBORO N.C. - Overnight a winter weather system dropped 1-2.5 inches of snow across Randolph County and wreaked havoc on roadways. The snow combined with already wet roads and overnight lows that dipped down below 10 degrees created treacherous driving conditions. In Moore county the Sandhills Sentinel reported several vehicles overturned including a NCDOT snow plow and a FEDEX delivery van. Here in Randolph County impacts have been minimal. Percriptitation was almost all snow with very little in the way of sleet or freezing rain. Unlike the last snow storm this one left several inches of alight powdery snow perfect for building a snowman . Crews were clearing roads as soon as snowfall stopped at 4am. Some of the animals who were able to brave the cold were able to take opportunity to enjoy the snow, including the Red River Hog who came out this morning to find a snowman in the habitat. ASHEBORO N.C. - Emergency crews responded to the Ramseur Quik Chek after getting calls that part of the roof over the diesel pumps had collapsed Sunday. On Sunday evening just before 6pm, emergency crews with the Ramseur Fire Department along with Ash-Rand Rescue were called to a roof collapse at the Ramseur Quik Chek. According to officials from the Ramseur Fire Department they arrived to find that a small portion of the awning was over the diesel pumps had collapse, resulting in minimal damage. The business was closed at the time and no injuries were reported. Crews said they did not see any indications of any disrepair or weakness to the awning and said the collapse may have been due to the weight of the ice and water.

A police report from the Asheboro Police Department shows that on January 10th 2022, at 5:07 P.M. officers responded to the 900 block of Martin Luther King Jr Dr after getting calls about multiple shots fired in the area. A total of 6 officers with both the Patrol and Special Enforcement Team (SET) responded to the area. The Asheboro Copperheads announced the re-branding this week, Starting immediately the team will be the Asheboro ZooKeepers. Bartender (fesenko/Adobe Stock) ASHEBORO N.C. - The Asheboro Police Department has charged 7 individuals and businesses with selling alcohol to someone under the age of 21 after conducting compliance checks at several local restaurants. According to several police reports from the Asheboro Police Department, their VICE unit along with agents from NC Alcohol Law Enforcement conducted undercover buys of alcohol using an underage operative over a three day span from Dec 6th through Dec 8th 2021. The operation was a part of the departments ABC Law Enforcement Service contract with the Asheboro ABC Board which states the department must conduct underage compliance checks at no less than 25% of ABC permitted businesses in the city each calendar year.
