ASHEBORO N.C. - Late last month Governor Cooper announced millions of dollars in water and sewer infrastructure funding projects for communities across North Carolina including more than 12.5 million for Wastewater Collection System Improvements for the town of Liberty. In a press release on February 24th, 2023, House Democratic Leader Robert Reives announced that $12.5 million had been allocated for wastewater collection system improvements in Liberty, as well as a $400,000 grant for pre-construction planning. Approval is still needed from the Local Government Commission (LGC). The juvenile was experiencing an emotional crisis and threatening to jump off of a bridge near her home. Telecommunicator Cheyanne Allred remained calm and professional during the entire thirteen-minute call. The juvenile female was distraught and crying and during the phone call, she made additional comments that sitting on that ledge was “peaceful” and made additional threats to jump. [Scott Pelkey | North State Journal] ASHEBORO N.C. - This week, the Asheboro ABC Board has announced the availability of 1st and 2nd quarter 2023 grant funds for the treatment of alcoholism or substance abuse or for research or education on alcohol or substance abuse.  The grants are a part of a program established by state lawmakers under NC § 18B-805. That statute requires that at least seven percent (7%) of the gross receipts from the stores shall be spent for the treatment of alcoholism or substance abuse, or for research or education on alcohol or substance abuse. On December 5th, 2022, RCPH director Tara Aker addressed the Board at the monthly County Commissioners Meeting. (RANDOLPH COUNTY GOVT) – Commissioners David Allen, Darrell Frye, and Hope Haywood were sworn in during the December 5 Randolph County Commissioners Board Meeting after being reelected during the midterm elections. Judge James (Jimmy) Hill administered the oath of office to the three commissioners as well as three Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisors William T. Alston, Carrie Guess-Slatosky, and Brian Ward. At the meeting, the board elected Darrell Frye as chairman, and David Allen as Vice Chairman of the Board, effective January 2023. ASHEBORO N.C. - There is just a little over a day left to vote ahead of the 2022 mid-terms elections scheduled to take place on November 8th, 2022. Early voting in Randolph County runs today through 7:30pm and Saturday Nov 5th from 8am to 3pm. (View Early Voting Schedule Here) There is no early voting on Sunday Nov 6th or Monday Nov 7th as North Carolina Statute requires a break on those days, between the end of early voting and the start of the election. If you were hoping to vote by mail instead, the deadline to request a ballot ended on November 1st. So far since early voting started on October 20th, 2022, over 22,000 residents of Randolph County have voted early. Thats on par with the last mid-terms in 2018 where 26,000 residents voted early.
