Freezing Rain Prompts Warnings For Travelers

ASHEBORO NC - The threat of freezing rain, black ice, and power outages tonight has prompted the National Weather Service in Raleigh to issue a Winter Weather Advisory for Randolph County. According to meteorologists, a mix of rain and freezing drizzle will taper off tonight around 9 PM. Ice from this wintery mix will stick around as overnight temperatures hover around freezing. This will likely result inslick/icy spots and black ice, especially on bridges and elevated roads overnight through late Sunday morning. Combined with patchy fog this could create especially hazardous travel conditions. Through-out the day Saturday Emergency crews have responded to an estimated 20 vehicle accidents in Randolph County. Wintry Mix Forecast For Area Tonight & Tomorrow

ASHEBORO NC - Winter weather is forecast to move in tonight, and this time, forecasters are saying it's not just going to be flurries. The National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the area from 7 PM Sunday until Noon on Monday. Meteorologists are calling for mixed precipitation with snow and freezing rain. WHENPrecipitation is expected to start at around 1 AM on Sunday end by Noon on Monday. WHAT IS EXPECTEDAreas along and north of Hwy 64 may see a brief period of freezing rain, before changing over to rain by the mid to late morning Sunday. Ice accumulation is expected to remain less than 1/10 of an inch. Snow Forecast For Friday – Winter Storm Warning Issued [UPDATED]

ASHEBORO NC [ARCHIVED] - All week meteorologists across the triad have been closely following the forecast models trying to figure out what's going to happen on Friday. Now the National Weather Service in Raleigh has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Randolph County starting at 1 AM Friday night through 1 AM Saturday morning.  According to the National Weather Service office in Raleigh, Total snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches with isolated areas to 3 inches are possible beginning Thursday night through Friday night.  In a briefing posted online the National Weather Service says where the snow does accumulate snapped trees and subsequent power outages are possible.
