ASHEBORO N.C. - A local pastor and former christian school administrator was convicted in a Davidson County Court this week of sexual activity with a student dating back to 2008. On Friday, June 7th 2019, a detective with the Criminal Investigations Division of the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office meet with a victim from a 2009 investigation. The former student, now an adult, re-reported allegations of a sexual assault that they had made several years prior when they were a student at Union Grove Christian School (UGSC) in Lexington. ASHEBORO N.C. - An Asheboro Police officer has resigned after being charged with driving while impaired while off-duty last month. In the early morning hours of Friday, May 27th 2022, a patrol officer with the Asheboro Police Department conducted a traffic stop for suspicion of DWI on U.S. Highway 64 near Presnell St. The driver in that stop was identified by police as 25-year-old M’Leigha Tashona Brown, an off-duty officer with the Asheboro City Police Department. M’Leigha Tashona Brown Troopers with the NC State Highway Patrol, who were requested by officers on scene arrived at the traffic stop and transported Brown to the Randolph County Jail for a breath test. According to the Highway Patrol that test registered a blood alcohol level of 0.17, more than twice the legal limit. ...

ASHEBORO N.C. - A 911 call about an armed robbery in progress in Asheboro led to three people being arrested, two on prostitution charges. A police report from the Asheboro Police Department says that just after 8 pm on Monday June 13th 2022, a 911 caller reported that a male had a gun and was trying to rob them at a home on Ross St. When officers arrived they found a car and a pickup truck facing each other in the driveway of the home with 2 males standing outside the passenger car and a male and a female inside the pickup truck. According to the report, officers investigated the incident and arrested three individuals. (ACME NEWS) - A woman was arrested Friday night on multiple felonies, misdemeanors, and traffic violations after police say she led them on a vehicle chased that ended in a crash in the Archdale/Trinity area. A press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says that on June 10, 2022, a deputy tried to pull over a driver near Trinity Road. That driver refused to stop and led police on a high speed vehicle chase. ASHEBORO N.C. - A driver is facing multiple charges after police say instead of pulling over he gave them the bird before he tried to flee, crashing his motorcycle, and trying to run from the scene last Friday. According to a report from the Asheboro Police Department on June 10th 2022, an officer and trainee working with the departments patrol division spotted a white male on a motorcycle on N. Fayetteville St. near E. Burns St. The report says officers witnessed the driver swerve towards the right of the road at Presnell St before swearing back on to N. According to a press release, on June 4th, 2022, at 7:30 pm, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says it received a report of threatening statements made towards Randleman High School on social media. The Department brought in investigators from the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) unit who were able to identify the address where the messages were sent. Patrol units and detectives responded to the address and were able to identify the individual, a juvenile, who sent the messages. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Asheboro Police Department says two suspects of a possible home invasion were injured after the homeowner opened fire, hitting them both this morning. This morning just after 4:30 am, officers with the Asheboro Police Department's patrol division were dispatched to the area of Underwood Street in reference to a 911 hang-up call. The officers learned from 911 that there was a subject with a gunshot wound nearby at 1634 Traci Street. When officers arrived on Traci Street they located a male at the rear of the residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. ASHEBORO N.C. (ACME NEWS)- Repair crews are working to clear downed lines and poles at the intersection of Dixon St and Uwharrie St in Asheboro, after an accident involving a truck. Around 11am the Asheboro Fire Department was dispatched to a reported hit and run at Dixon St and Uwharrie St. Police on scene requested the fire department to respond to assist with traffic control and downed power lines. We are still waiting to hear back from the Asheboro Police Department about what exactly led to the accident. In the aftermath left behind 4-6 power poles were down along with power and cable lines across the roadway and in several peoples yards on Dixon St, Uwharrie St, and Cherry St. At this time power crews say that power has been restored to all but one customer near the scene...

ASHEBORO N.C. - Two children died, and a their mother was seriously injured overnight in a vehicle crash on I-73, north of Asheboro. Just before 1 a.m, on Monday May 30th 2022, first responders with Westside Fire Department and Randolph County EMS were dispatched to an unknown vehicle accident on I-73/74 northbound, at the Spero Rd exit. As dispatchers gathered more information they learned it was a single vehicle accident with two children severely injured. No Injuries After Fire At Asheboro Furniture Plant

Firefighters with the Asheboro Fire Department on the scene of a fire at a local Furniture plant on May 26th 2022.. (Scott Pelkey / Acme News) ASHEBORO N.C. - Early this afternoon firefighters with the Asheboro Fire Department responded to a report of a pile of sawdust on fire at a local Furniture plant. According to Samantha East, Public Information Officer with the Asheboro Fire Department, at 11:46 am, crews were dispatched to a commercial fire at Jackson Furniture, located at 136 E Dorsett Ave. Crews arrived on scene to find sawdust on fire and were able to quickly extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported and firefighters cleared the scene at 12:55 pm. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
