Map from DriveNC.gov LIBERTY — The N.C. Department of Transportation (NC DOT) has announced the Julian Airport Road exit on U.S. 421 northbound will be closed due to construction next week. According to a press release, beginning June 4th, crews from Ames Construction will close the northbound exit for Julian Airport Rd on US 421 so they can work on the new interchange. A signed, on-site detour for motorists is as follows: U.S. 421 northbound to N.C. 62 N.C. 62 to Old U.S. 421 Old U.S. 421 to Julian Airport Road NC DOT says additions to the new interchange are scheduled to be completed in the coming weeks and expectes to have an update soon. A vehicle crash has shutdown I-73/74 in both directions near exit 66 (New Hope Church Rd). Map from DriveNC According to drivenc.gov a vehicle crash between mile-marker 68 and 69 has shutdown traffic on I-73/74 in both directions in Randolph County at Mile Marker 12, Near Seagrove / New Hope Church Road. Current estimates say the interstate may not reopen until 5 p.m. We are still reaching out to authorities for details of the crash and no information is currently available. According to photos published by Alex Perdue News on Facebook traffic is being diverted off the highway at exit 68 New Hope Church Rd on the southbound lanes. On Monday March 4th, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., NC DOT will be closing the right lane at mile markers 84 and 83, located just north of the W Academy Street exit for road work. Department of Transportation will suspend most construction activity on major highways to make travel easier during the upcoming holiday season. Most work along interstates, U.S. and key state routes will be suspended starting Friday morning and will resume Jan. 2, 2024. Exceptions include bridges being replaced, long term lane construction that cannot be temporarily removed and highway work that does not impact travel.  One such spot is Interstate 40 in Haywood County, where lane closures will stay in place for safety reasons. JULIAN N.C. - The N.C. Department of Transportation will be installing a temporary traffic light on the southbound exit ramp for U.S. 421 at Hwy 62 in the coming weeks to help relieve traffic from the Megasite.  In the coming days crews working for N.C. DOT will install a temporary traffic signal at the U.S. 421 Southbound exit ramp with N.C. 62. On Nov. 20th, the new signal will be activated to help mitigate traffic congestion associated with construction at the Greensboro Randolph Megasite. The signal will remain in place until the new interchange at U.S. 421 and Julian Airport Road is completed in August of next year. Motorists are advised to stay alert when approaching the new traffic pattern.

Governor’s Highway Safety Program is reminding drivers to follow the speed limit as part of 'Operation Crash Reduction' from Oct. 9-15.  The annual campaign enforces safe driving during one of the deadliest months of the year for fatal vehicle crashes. Department of Transportation will perform nightly closures of the southbound lanes of U.S. 421 next week in Randolph County, weather permitting. From 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. from Sept. 25 to Sept. 28, crews from Ames Construction plan to close U.S. 421 South as part of ongoing interchange work. A signed detour to Shiloh Road will be in place during the southbound closure. Lane closures with no detour will be in place during the same timeframe for on Sept 29, and Oct 2-6. (NC DOT) – State and local law enforcement officers will be out in force over the next two weeks as part of the “Labor Day Booze It & Lose It” campaign, officials announced at a campaign launch Monday in Davidson County. Increased patrols and checkpoints will be conducted statewide starting today through Sept. 10, to keep impaired drivers off North Carolina roads. North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein helped lead Monday’s kickoff event at the Davidson County Rest Area off Interstate 85 South. “Keeping people safe has to be job one for all of us,” Stein said. “If you drink and drive, you will get caught.
