LIBERTY N.C. - The North Carolina Department of Transportation says a portion of NC Hwy 49 in Liberty will be closed for several days as crews work to replace a crossline. According to a Traffic Incident Management System (TIMS) Alert sent out this morning Hwy 49 in Liberty will be closed between mile markers 36.4 to 37.3 (between S Valley St and Highfill St). Work is expected to start on Monday July 25th and end on Friday July 29th 2022. ASHEBORO N.C. - Officials are warning drivers of construction at the entrance/exit to the Asheboro Wal-Mart over the next 2 weeks. Detour Instructions EntranceThe entrance to the Wal-Mart parking lot has not changed. Drivers can enter where they normally would. ExitTo exit the parking lot use alternate on the east side of the parking lot near Burkes Outlet. Chick-fil-ATo reach Chick-fil-A use the entrance to Wal-Mart and after entering make a U-turn in the main parking lot and head out the normal exit until signs direct you off to the right to go through another parking lot to reach Chick-fil-A's parking lot from the rear. ASHEBORO N.C. (NC SHP) – Two cars stopped after a minor crash on I-73/74 this morning were struck by a third vehicle bringing the early morning commute on the interstate to a crawl. According to a press release from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NC SHP), at 7:26 am on Friday, May 6th 2022, troopers responded to the report of a crash that occurred on I-73 (southbound) near Presnell Street in Randolph County. The NC SHP was already sending Troopers to another accident in the southbound lanes of I-73, inside Asheboro City limits. That first accident had started to backup traffic on the interstate. Public Domain Image ASHEBORO N.C. - This week we were contacted by more than half a dozen citizens through our Facebook and Twitter accounts asking why the speed limit changed on a section of Old Hwy 49 from 55 mph to 45 mph. So we reached out to the NC Dept of Transportation. According to officials the change resulted from local residents asking the NC DOT to reevaluate the speed limit on the highway. "At the request of local citizens, our division and regional traffic units reviewed safety and speed conditions along the stretch of Old N.C. 49 between Moore Road and the Eastern Junction with N.C. 49 and determined the speed limit for this section should be reduced from 55 to 45 mph" said Aaron Moody, Public Information Officer with NC DOT in an email.
