ASHEBORO N.C. - This month the Randolph County Sheriff's Office will be conducting 'Operation School Supplies' to fill law enforcement vehicles with school supplies for local students. Here's what you need to know. Starting August 21st and running through 25th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office will be collecting school supplies in front of the Asheboro Walmart from 9 am – 1 pm each day. Donations of pencils, pens, notebooks, paper, crayons, markers, calculators, erasers, binders, rulers, glue, and more are all needed to fill the law enforcement vehicle each day. [Scott Pelkey | North State Journal] ASHEBORO N.C. - One person was airlifted with serious injuries after being struck by a vehicle on E Dixie Dr last Friday. On Friday, July 28th, 2023, at around 7:30 pm, emergency crews were called to the scene of a vehicle collision where a pedestrian was struck on E Dixie Dr near Zaxby's. According to an accident report from the Asheboro Police Department, a 2005 Nissan SUV was traveling west on E Dixie Dr near Executive Way when a pedestrian stepped into the roadway and was struck by the vehicle. The 28-year-old male victim sustained serious injuries and was transported by the scene by Randolph County EMS to the helipad at Randolph Hospital where they were air-lifted by Baptist AirCare to a local trauma center. ASHEBORO N.C. - Two adult suspects who allegedly stole from a local convince store and later conducted a drive by shooting in front of two police officers, were arrested last week according to police reports. On Tuesday July 18th, 2023, at around 9:30 pm, police were notified of a larceny at the Quik Chek store on Sunset Ave in Asheboro. Before the police could respond, two officers working an off-duty detail at Coleridge Apartments called in shots fired after witnessing an individual hanging out of the window firing a pistol towards Kemp Blvd, according to a police report. ASHEBORO N.C. - Forecasters are warning that dangerously hot temperatures are expected across much of central North Carolina later this week and into the weekend. Starting Wednesday and into Thursday, heat and humidity will roll into the area with highs in the lower 90s and heat-index values reaching into the mid-90's. The real threat from dangerous heat starts on Friday and extends through Sunday. Heat advisory and/or warnings are expected during this time as hot temperatures combined with high humidity will push heat index values into the upper 90s to above 100 degrees over central NC, according to forecasters with the National Weather Service in Raleigh. At around 5:40 p.m. on July 22nd, 2023, emergency crews responded to I-73/74 Southbound, near the Pineview exit, for an injured person in the roadway. One person was transported from the scene with critical injuries to a local trauma center. Investigators are on the scene now and traffic delays are expected in the area. This is a developing story. ASHEBORO N.C. - Two people were arrested and are now facing multiple felony drug trafficking charges after deputies located drugs on a traffic stop leading to an investigation that located more drugs and guns in a camper. On June 30th, 2023, deputies with the Randolph County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division conducted a traffic stop on Mack Rd. in Asheboro. During a search of the vehicle the Sheriff's office says they located and seized approximately 4 ½ of Methamphetamine as well as Suboxone, Oxycodone and two firearms, according to a press release. The driver of the vehicle, identified by the Sheriff's Office as Evan Baker, was transported to the hospital for medical treatment following the traffic stop and investigators were able to obtain warrants for Baker's arrest. ASHEBORO N.C. - Registration is now open for the annual Junior Amateur Golf Tournament in early August. The Asheboro Municipal Golf Course will be hosting the annual Junior Amateur Golf Tournament on August 5th and August 6th, 2023.  The tournament is open to any junior golfer between 7-18 years of age.  Participants will be divided into three age divisions that will be determined based on the number of entrants.  The entry fee is $25 for all players, which includes two rounds of golf (the number of holes in each round will be proportional to each age group) and winning trophies.
