Photo provided by Randolph County Sheriffs Office ASHEBORO NC -The Randolph County Sherriff's Office is asking for help identifying a suspect after an armed robbery on Saturday.  According to a press release by the Randolph County Sherriff's Office, on February 6, 2021, at approximately 8:15 pm, deputies responded to an armed robbery at the GH Mart located at 4960 US Hwy. 220 South. They say a white male subject had entered the business, armed with a long gun and robbed the store at gunpoint. The suspect left on foot walking towards Zoo Parkway. According to Mark Lineberry, Chief of the Asheboro Police Department, an officer was responding to a domestic call where there was a suspect who was possibly armed with a weapon. Seventeen-year-old Payton is being relocated from the Memphis Zoo as part of its breeding efforts. Payton was named after Walter Payton – the late running back for the Chicago Bears NFL team. He was born on was born Nov. 8, 2003, at the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago but was moved to the Memphis Zoo in 2006. “Seeing Payton leave is bittersweet. He has been a part of our lives at Memphis Zoo for the last 15 years,” said Amanda Moses, communications specialist for the Memphis Zoo. “He is special to Memphis Zoo, and to the keepers and researchers who have worked with him. ASHEBORO NC [ARCHIVED] - Norfolk Southern began repairs on tracks through downtown Asheboro Monday. Crossings between Church St and Fayetteville St at Academy St, Wainman St, and Kivett St were closed on Monday and Tuesday. This work is part of Norfolk Southern’s annual maintenance program to ensure safe and efficient operations in the communities we serve, said Rachel Bradshaw a Manager Media Relations with the Norfolk Southern Corporation.  According to an e-mail from Bradshaw on Tuesday evening work is expected to be complete in the next day or two, depending on weather and unforeseen delays.

ASHEBORO NC - Asheboro Mini Golf has been around for over 60 years, and after an especially rough year, its owner is asking the community for help. For the last four years, David Gregor has been running the mini-golf course located on S Fayetteville St. "It has been a staple in this community," said Gregor on his GoFundMe page. He describes it as a skill-based golf course. "I took over the business in 2016 and started off being a big part of this wonderful community. We have done things like giving the county library system 2,000 free games to give children who complete their weekly reading during the summer reading program. ASHEBORO NC - Photos of a bizarre vehicle accident were shared across Facebook yesterday. The photos from 2 separate posts were shared hundreds of times show a vehicle that looks to be defying gravity standing almost vertically. The accident occurred Sunday, January 3rd just before 1:30 PM next to the KFC on Dixie Dr. According to an accident report by the Asheboro Police Department, 73-year-old Martha Gurgainus was traveling southbound on Cliff Rd next to the KFC, when she lost control of the vehicle and drove up onto a guidewire of a utility pole on E Dorsett Ave. The driver told police that she may have been going too fast and that she was attempting to re-adjust her seat when her foot hit the gas pedal, causing her vehicle to drive forward.
