Randolph Community College / Acme News Stock Image ASHEBORO NC - Randolph Community College will be conducting a drill of it emergency notification system tomorrow. The campus wide lockdown drill is planned for Thursday, October 14, between 12 PM and 4 PM for both the Asheboro and Archdale campuses. Messages sent to students and staff on campus, heard on loudspeakers, and received via RCC Alerts will NOT say test or drill. Everyone on campus at the time is requested to and follow all protocols and procedures for an active shooter / threat. Officials at the community college are requesting everyone be aware that the drill is only a test but that all alarms and alerts should be taken seriously and is requesting everyone be prepared to respond appropriately.

ASHEBORO NC – A man is facing dozens of felony charges after he was arrested in connection with a string of vehicle break-ins across Randolph County. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office they received multiple calls during the first few weeks of August about vehicle break-ins in the Trinity, Thomasville and north-west Asheboro areas. They say their investigation led them to charge Franklin Lee Allen for 19 Counts of Felony Breaking or Entering into a Motor Vehicle, Felony Larceny of Firearm, Felony Possession of Stolen Firearm, 10 Counts of Misdemeanor Larceny, and 10 Counts of Misdemeanor Possession of Stolen Goods/Property. ASHEBORO NC – According to a police report by the Asheboro Police Department on October 9th officers along with fire and EMS crews were called to 405 Farmer Rd in reference to a stabbing. A couple at the Asheboro apartment each claimed the other had stabbed them. The police report says that the girlfriend had called 911and told police her boyfriend upset that she refused to have sex with him, had jumped on her on the couch and stabbed her in the leg before she wrestled the knife away from him. She stated that he had fled the apartment in a gold truck armed with the knife and that she wasn’t sure if she had stabbed him. ASHEBORO NC – Three people are in jail this morning, two of them facing murder charges in connection with a body that was found in a wooded area in Asheboro earlier this month. According to a press release from the Asheboro Police Department on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at approximately 10:27 PM, officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Burns Street for a possible deceased person. When officers arrived they located a deceased male in a wooded area. Detectives were called to the scene and began an investigation. ASHEBORO NC (CITY OF ASHEBORO) - United Way of Randolph County, in partnership with the City of Asheboro and the North Carolina Department of Commerce Rural Economic Development Division, is pleased to announce a program to provide temporary rent, mortgage or utility payment assistance to households who have suffered economic hardships due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Funding for the program was made available through the US Department of Housing and Urban Development and the federal CARES Act of 2020. Eligible households must be located within the City of Asheboro Corporate Limits. Applicants will need to complete an application and provide documentation of an economic hardship related to COVID-19. Everyone from our vendors, attendees, sponsors, and downtown merchants have been affected by this pandemic. Ongoing discussions have been difficult and complex. Sadly, we have ultimately decided that it is in the best interest of the community to cancel the 2021 Fall Festival, October 2 – 3, 2021, due to COVID-19 for the second year in a row. ASHEBORO - An altercation on Albemarle Road involving a gun triggered a lock down at two Asheboro schools. According to a press release from the Asheboro Police Department, on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at approximately 2:25 PM, officers with the Asheboro Police Department responded to the 500 block of Albemarle Road after receiving a call about an armed person. The callers reported an altercation between multiple people, with at least one who was armed with a handgun. Asheboro High School, South Asheboro Middle School were placed on lockdown and an officer was posted at the nearby child care facility. Several Injured In Accident Involving Uwharrie Charter School Bus [UPDATED]

ASHEBORO NC - A driver and three children are at the hospital this morning after an accident involving a school bus in Davidson County. According to the NC Highway Patrol the accident occured at around 7:30 AM on Highway 109 near Mount Zion Church Road. Troopers say it appears that a driver crossed the center line and struck a school bus for Uwharrie Charter Academy head on. Seven children were on the bus at the time of the crash, and three of those were taken to the hospital, and are with family at this time. The driver of the passenger car was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Troopers have cleared the scene and Hwy 109 is back open at this time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJj5LGrDqI8 ASHEBORO NC (ACME NEWS)- A water main break early Monday morning caused the tower on Church St to drain its more than 500,000 gallons in less than 30 mins.  City officials say they were made aware of the issue around 5:30 AM. The water main break caused a 5ft sinkhole to form at the base of the tower. That sinkhole formed directly under a cell tower utility building which caused it to fall into the hole. Crews were still pumping water out this afternoon and were waiting on a crane to come to remove the building.  The flowing water carried mud down onto Church St and Academy St. S Church st is closed between Sunset Ave and Wainman Ave. Several homes are without water and while city officials do n...
