Emergency Crews Rescue Driver Stranded in Flood Water

Stock Image (ungvar / Adobe Stock) FARMER N.C. – In the early morning hours emergency crews were called to rescue a driver who had become stranded in three feet of water off Old NC Hwy 49. Just after 3 a.m. Randolph County 911 dispatched Farmer Fire Department and Ash-Rand Rescue to the intersection of Moore Rd and Old NC Hwy 49 for a report of a vehicle trapped in three feet of water. Dispatch advised a short time later that the call was plotting closer to the intersection of Moore Rd and Golden Meadow Rd. The first unit from Farmer Fire Department arrived on scene at around 3:16 a.m. and an Ash-Rand Rescue unit was departing its base with a boat at around the same time. The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, has placed most of central North Carolina under an Enhanced Risk of severe weather today. An Enhanced Risk indicates there is a larger area with widespread chances of low-to-moderate intensity severe thunderstorms. Local forecasters at the National Weather Service Office in Raleigh say that they are expecting a line of severe storms to move across NC between 3pm and 11pm with widespread damaging winds, isolated tornados, and heavy rain causing minor flooding in some areas. ASHEBORO N.C. - The National Weather Service Office in Raleigh has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook with severe storms expected Tuesday afternoon and into the evening. According to forecasters, strong to severe thunderstorms are possible across much of the Piedmont of North Carolina this afternoon and evening, with the highest risk over the Triad region, including all of Randolph County. Some storms may produce damaging winds over 60 mph, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. The greatestthreat will occur between 3 PM and 10 PM. In addition, isolated flooding is possible where multiple storms pass repeatedly over the same areas. The Storm Prediction Center has placed this area at a Level 2 (out of 5) risk of severe storms. ASHEBORO NC - Tuesday and Wednesday are setting up to be a wet one, thanks to Tropical Storm Fred who’s heading our way. What remains of Tropical Storm Fred will slowly move through the southeastern part of NC on Tuesday. Fred will bring with it heavy rains up in the mountains, but in the Piedmont we are only expecting a few scattered showers and thunderstorms. Rain and winds may be heavy at times with some possibility of localized severe storms and flooding. Again on Wednesday, the remnants of Fred will keep moving slowly to the northeast as the storms clear out of the area late on Wednesday.
