A vehicle crash has shutdown I-73/74 in both directions near exit 66 (New Hope Church Rd). Map from DriveNC According to drivenc.gov a vehicle crash between mile-marker 68 and 69 has shutdown traffic on I-73/74 in both directions in Randolph County at Mile Marker 12, Near Seagrove / New Hope Church Road. Current estimates say the interstate may not reopen until 5 p.m. We are still reaching out to authorities for details of the crash and no information is currently available. According to photos published by Alex Perdue News on Facebook traffic is being diverted off the highway at exit 68 New Hope Church Rd on the southbound lanes. Accident scene on I-73/74 Southbound at Presnell St. (Scott Pelkey / North State Journal) ASHEBORO N.C. — A multi-vehicle accident has shut down I-73/74 southbound near the West Presnell Street exit. Just after 5 p.m. Randolph County 9-1-1 received multiple calls about several vehicles involved in a collision on I-73/74 near the Sunset Ave exit. Asheboro Fire and Rescue and Westside Fire Departments were dispatched and located two accident scenes. Two vehicles, including one overturned blocking both lanes of travel, were located on I-73/74 at the West Presnell Street exit. Photo from Westside Fire & Rescue via Facebook ASHEBORO N.C. - No one was seriously injured after several accidents, involving more than a dozen vehicles, resulted in I-73/74 south being temporarily shut down overnight.  According to a post by Westside Fire & Rescue on Facebook, at 5:44 p.m. on Monday, November 27th, 2023, emergency crews responded to assist Highway Patrol after debris fell off of a truck on Interstate 73/74 south, near Vision Drive.  When the first units arrived, they located a four-vehicle accident in the southbound lanes of I-73/74 at Spero Rd with only minor injuries.  That accident resulted in the southbound lanes being shut down.  Westside Fire & Rescue’s unit Rescue 13, which was also responding to the initial accident,...

[Scott Pelkey | North State Journal] ASHEBORO N.C.- A driver was seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident on I-73/74 late Monday night that shutdown the interstate for nearly three hours. Just after 10:30 p.m. Asheboro Fire/Rescue Department, Randolph County EMS, Asheboro Police, and the Randolph County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer on I-73/74 northbound, near the Sunset Ave exit. The State Highway Patrol was also notified of the crash and Troopers responded to investigate. At around 5:40 p.m. on July 22nd, 2023, emergency crews responded to I-73/74 Southbound, near the Pineview exit, for an injured person in the roadway. One person was transported from the scene with critical injuries to a local trauma center. Investigators are on the scene now and traffic delays are expected in the area. This is a developing story. RANDLEMAN N.C. - A driver who crashed head on into another vehicle while going the wrong way on I-73/74 near Randleman last weekend is facing several charges including DUI and child abuse. Shortly before midnight, Randolph County 911 had received a call from a driver who was taking the Randleman exit off I-73/74 onto West Academy St and reported they were nearly hit by a car that had entered the exit ramp going the wrong direction. Randolph County 911 notified both local police and deputies in the area as well as the highway patrol. ASHEBORO N.C. - A crash this morning has left one dead after a driver crashed head-on into another vehicle while traveling the wrong way on I-73/74. At approximately 10:10 AM, on January 31, 2023, officers with the Asheboro Police Department responded to reports of traffic crash on I-73 North of McDowell Road. Callers reported seeing a white Nissan Frontier traveling North in the Southbound Lane of I-73 immediately before the crash. When emergency personnel arrived on scene, they discovered that the Nissan Frontier had struck a Toyota Tacoma that was traveling Southbound. The driver of the Nissan Frontier, a 94-year-old male, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Traffic on I-73/74 near Asheboro (Stock Photo / Acme News Archive) ASHEBORO N.C. -One man is in jail today after police say he robbed his "friend" at knifepoint before leaving him on the side of the interstate last Sunday. On October 9th, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to High Point St, in Randleman for a call about an armed robbery that had occurred on Interstate 73/74. When the police arrived, they located the victim who had obvious injuries. The victim told police that he was riding with a “friend” who he was allowing to drive his new vehicle. That "friend" was identified by the Sheriff's Office as "James David Marler". ASHEBORO N.C. - Two children died, and a their mother was seriously injured overnight in a vehicle crash on I-73, north of Asheboro. Just before 1 a.m, on Monday May 30th 2022, first responders with Westside Fire Department and Randolph County EMS were dispatched to an unknown vehicle accident on I-73/74 northbound, at the Spero Rd exit. As dispatchers gathered more information they learned it was a single vehicle accident with two children severely injured.
