ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff's Office's Highway Criminal Interdiction Team arrested a New York man last week after they say the located over $10,000 of stolen items in the vehicle. According to a press release, on October 6th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Highway Criminal Interdiction Team conducted a traffic stop on I-85 in Archdale. During that stop deputies were able to search the vehicle and say they located marijuana, several fraudulent identity cards, and over $10,000 in fraudulently purchased power equipment. On August 20th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Team conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 85 north near mile marker 109, in Trinity. During that stop, officers say they located approximately forty-four pounds of cocaine in the "trunk area" of the vehicle. ASHEBORO N.C. - A vehicle crash in the early morning hours of November 30th, 2022, closed all southbound lanes on I-85 in Trinity leaving several people with minor injuries. Just after 4:30 am on Wednesday, November 30th, 2022, emergency crews responded to a vehicle accident on I-85 southbound near Hopewell Church Road in Trinity. According to information from the North Carolina Highway Patrol, David Thorman Reed, 60, of Trinity, N.C., was traveling north on I-85 in a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox. A female driver from Smyrna, GA., was traveling south on I-85 in a 2016 BMW. ASHEBORO N.C. - Two men from California were arrested this week after deputies with the Sheriff's Office stopped their Tractor Trailer on I-85. On November 21, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Highway Criminal InterdictionTeam pulled over a Tractor Trailer registered out of California on I-85 in Archdale. During that traffic stop, a K-9 alerted and a deputies searched the truck where according to a press release approximately 230 pounds of marijuana was located and seized. According to a press release by the NC Highway Patrol, at 6:53 PM on Sunday, September 19th, 2021, troopers responded to the report of a crash that occurred on I-85 near Hopewell Church Road in Randolph County. Troopers say a single vehicle traveled off the roadway to the left, went down into the median and overturned. The vehicle then traveled across all southbound lanes of I-85 and came to rest on the southbound shoulder of the interstate. Juan Gabriel-Molina Gonzales ASHEBORO NC - A Texas man is facing felony drug trafficking charges after deputies say they found over 5 lbs. of cocaine in his vehicle during a traffic stop. According to a press release by the Randolph County Sherriff's Office on March 11th, 2021, deputies with the Sherriff's Offices Highway Criminal Interdiction Team pulled over a vehicle on I-85 in Trinity that was registered out of Texas. At some point during the stop, deputies searched the vehicle and say they discovered approximately 2,376.5 grams (5.2 pounds) of Cocaine and US Currency. The driver of the vehicle, Juan Gabriel-Molina Gonzales, was transported to Randolph County Detention Center and charged with two counts of Felony Trafficking in Cocaine.
