Closure Planned For NC Hwy 49 In Liberty

LIBERTY N.C. - The North Carolina Department of Transportation says a portion of NC Hwy 49 in Liberty will be closed for several days as crews work to replace a crossline. According to a Traffic Incident Management System (TIMS) Alert sent out this morning Hwy 49 in Liberty will be closed between mile markers 36.4 to 37.3 (between S Valley St and Highfill St). Work is expected to start on Monday July 25th and end on Friday July 29th 2022. Businesses Evacuated After Suspected Fire At Coach’s Restaurant

ASHEBORO N.C. (ACME NEWS) - Several businesses were evacuated just before Noon today after black smoke was spotted in the Kitchen of Coach's restaurant on Hwy 49 in Asheboro. Firefighters from Asheboro's Station 1 & 2 responded to the scene along with Asheboro PD and Randolph County EMS. According to officials on scene they believe that grease that had built up in or near the HVAC system began to smoke after the heat was turned on in the kitchen. The fire put its self out after the system was turned off. No one was injured and the all other businesses have re-opened. UPDATE: Acme News verified that Coach's has re-opened as of 1:20 P.M. Detour Upcoming for NC 49 in Randolph County

LIBERTY NC.(NC DOT PRESS RELEASE)- State transportation maintenance crews need to close a section of N.C. 49 in Liberty for about two weeks to conduct an emergency replacement of a storm drain. The drain failed where it passes under the highway near South Valley Street on the eastern side of the town. Starting Monday, traffic will be detoured to follow East Dameron Avenue/Silk Hope Liberty Road, Hinshaw Shop Road and Staley Store Road/Town Country Road to access points on either side of the closure.
