On August 20th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Team conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 85 north near mile marker 109, in Trinity. During that stop, officers say they located approximately forty-four pounds of cocaine in the "trunk area" of the vehicle. The driver, identified by the Sheriff's Office as 60-year-old Antonio Argentine Shaw from Virginia, was arrested and has been charged with two counts of Felony Trafficking in Cocaine. On June 2nd, 2023, the Zoo anounced the birth of three sand cat kittens. Several weeks later, in a press release, the zoo revealed the sexes of the kittens, one male and two females, as well as an online poll to allow the public to choose names for the tiny desert felines. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff's Office has charged a local man with embezzling several thousand dollars from a local baseball club. On October 14th, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office began an investigation into suspected embezzlement after receiving a report from a local community baseball club. According to a press release, that investigation led to investigators charging 37-year-old Jesse Lee Martin from Denton, NC, with one count of Felony Embezzlement on August 10th, 2023. According to court records, Martin is accused of embezzling $3,600 from the Cedar Grove Baseball Club, a local little league organization. TRINITY N.C. - A search warrant issued as a part of a joint investigation located nearly 30,000 Fentanyl pills at a home in Trinity and landed one person in jail. On August 9th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit and Criminal Interdiction Team, Asheboro Police Department’s Vice Unit, and the Department of Homeland Security's Investigation division (HSI), executed a search warrant on a residence located at 6503 Bellawood Dr. in Trinity. According to a press release, that search located approximately 28,400 Fentanyl pills that weighed approximately 12.5 pounds, along with U.S. Currency. As a result, Robert Gurung was arrested and transported to Randolph County Jail where the magistrate found probable cause for the multiple felony drug and trafficking charges. ...

ASHEBORO N.C. — The State Board of Elections has approved almost a hundred student and employee ID cards for use in the upcoming 2023 municipal and 2024 primary and general elections in North Carolina. With the passage of Voter ID laws in North Carolina, voters will be asked to show photo ID when voting in state starting with the municipal elections this fall. According to the National Weather Service Office in Raleigh, an area of low pressure off the Southeast coast will move into the Carolinas over the weekend.
