Department of Transportation is putting tethered drones on Incident Management Assistance Patrol (IMAP) vehicles in order to assist first responders and get a birds eye view of an area. The North Carolina Incident Management Assistance Patrol (IMAP) program and the Division of Aviation's Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) program recently helped develop and deploy the tethered drones system from select IMAP vehicles. Tickets purchased as part of the sale are valid for travel anytime from March 1st to Aug. 31st, so you don't have to take that trip right now to take advantage of the deal. Fares are one way (adult) with no additional discounts. ASHEBORO N.C. - The National Weather Service and the Department of Transportation are urging drivers of hazardous traveling conditions expected tonight. Road crews were out early this morning working to clear roads of snow and ice and combined with the bright sun today road conditions have dramatically improved. ASHEBORO NC – Police are saying that “Unsafe Footwear” is to blame after an elderly driver lost control, drove through the lawn next to the historic courthouse, before crashing into a stairwell. On August 25th, just after 2 PM, emergency crews were called to 145 Worth St in Asheboro near the historic courthouse for a report of a vehicle that had hit the building. When they arrived, they found a 2014 Toyota SUV with its airbags deployed wedged in the stairwell next to the courthouse. According to an accident report by the Asheboro Police Department the driver told police she was attempting to park on Worth St when her open toed shoe got caught on the accelerator. RALEIGH NC (NCDOT) – Nearly 70 miles of Central North Carolina roads will be resurfaced thanks to three contracts recently awarded by the N.C. Department of Transportation. The milling, resurfacing and shoulder grading projects are scheduled to be complete by the summer of 2022. Two of the contracts cover nearly 55 miles of secondary roads in Chatham County and were awarded to Fred Smith Company with low bids of $2.3 million and $2.5 million. The other contract, covering nearly 12 miles of roadway in Randolph County including three sections of U.S. 64, was also awarded to Fred Smith Company with a low bid of just over $2 million. Board of Transportation has approved state and federal funding for safety and airfield improvement projects at 10 North Carolina airports. Totaling $12.75 million, the funds have been awarded for various projects to help airports increase capacity, attract new jobs and businesses to their communities, and improve safety for pilots and passengers. The board approved the funds during its March 4 meeting.
