ASHEBORO N.C. - The Sheriff’s Office announced they made an arrest of an individual accused of stealing a truck with several guns inside last month. On January 10, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 7000 block of NC HWY 49 South in Denton for a report of a vehicle theft. The victim told police that a truck containing several firearms had been stolen from the business. The Asheboro Police Department located the stolen truck on January 20, 2022. A press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says officers found the truck in the possession of Caleb Hunter Reeder who was arrested for Felony Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle and transported to the Randolph County Jail. ASHEBORO N.C. - A man who shot into a house from a stolen vehicle last month was recently arrested and charged with a felony. On January 20, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Bingham Loflin Rd. in Asheboro for a shooting into a residence. Deputies say they located a bullet hole on the west side of the home which faced Bingham Loflin Rd and that bullet had made it through the wall and into the home. Crime Scene Investigations collected evidence from the scene. Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office received a description of the vehicle and after learning that vehicle was taken without permission they say they were able to identify Dustin Wayne Bailey as a suspect. ASHEBORO N.C. - A convicted felon is back in jail after brandishing a gun during an argument before fleeing the scene when 911 was called. On January 19, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a family fight on Kerr Drive, in Randleman. When deputies arrived they were told that Phillip Andrew Hess had come to the house and an argument ensued. During that argument police say that Hess was told to leave and refused before brandishing a firearm and verbally threatening the residents. The victim told police that when they called 911 Hess dropped the handgun and fled on foot. Responding deputies attempted to locate Hess but were unsuccessful. ASHEBORO N.C. - A call about possible drug activity led police to locating a suspect who had fled on foot and escaped earlier in the day. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office on January 21st, 2022, a deputy in the area of Hwy 64 E near Asheboro observed a vehicle that matched the description of a vehicle stolen from Old Cox Rd reported stolen on December 29th, 2021. The Sheriff’s Office says the deputy followed the vehicle to the Dollar General on US Hwy 64 E, where police say the suspect fled on foot.Additional deputies and a K-9 were dispatched to help locate the suspect but the K9 lost the scent on Loflin Pond Road. Chris Hoover was with the department for 24 years rising to the rank of Battalion Chief while also a member of the Tabernacle Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years, and Ash-Rand Rescue. Hoover sadly lost his battle with COVID-19 on January 8th 2022. On Sunday firefighters with Asheboro made the trip up to UNC Medical Center to bring back his casket. ASHEBORO N.C. — A driver who was involved in a serious accident in Randolph County Wednesday night died from from his injuries this afternoon. The North Carolina Highway Patrol says at 8:31 p.m. on Wednesday, December 15th, 2021, Troopers responded to a crash on WOW Road near Phillips Road. Forty-Eight year old Christopher Brian Michael from Pine Hall, N.C., was driving south on WOW Road in a when he crossed the center line, traveled off the roadway to the left and overturned. The Highway Patrol says Michael wasn’t wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. On December 7th, 2021, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office was called to Raymond Gray Lane, in Archdale, to assist NC Probation and Parole in searching the home of Stan Millikan Davis, Jr., a convicted felon on probation for drug charges out of Guilford County. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man on felony rape charges. According to a press release, on November 23rd, 2021, the Sheriff’s Office received a report of a sexual offense. An investigation was started by the Criminal Investigations Division which resulted in charges being sought against Shawn Lee Willard for Felony Second Degree Forcible Rape and Felony Second Degree Forcible Sex Offense. On December 9th, 2021, Willard was located, arrested and transported to the Randolph County Jail where he was issued a $30,000 total secured bond. ASHEBORO N.C. - A man is in jail without bond today after police say he tried to attack family members with a knife but was subdued by the victims. That's according to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office who said in a press release that on December 9th, 2021, deputies responded to Featherstone Ct., in Trinity, in reference to an armed person. Deputies say when they arrived the victims reported the male had attacked them with a kitchen knife, but that they had been able to subdue him until police arrived. Deputies placed the male whom they identified as William Edward Kuntz, under arrest. EMS responded to evaluate and treat Kuntz and the victims for their injuries. ASHEBORO, N.C. (NC ZOO) – - The North Carolina Zoo is pleased to announce it has once again received the honor of accreditation by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Every five years, the Zoo is required to go through the entire application process to retain its accreditation. The AZA awarded accreditation to the Zoo following a rigorous inspection visit earlier in the year. Fewer than 10% of all zoos and aquariums worldwide meet the standards to earn accreditation from the AZA. “The AZA has continuously accredited the North Carolina Zoo for more than 37 years, demonstrating the Zoo's ongoing commitment to animal welfare and veterinary care, conservation, education, and guest experience,” said Deputy Secretary Jeff Michael of the N.C.
