ASHEBORO N.C. - The Women, Infants, and Children Program (WIC) office located inside the Randolph County Public Health main building on South Fayetteville Street is moving to a new location. In a press release, Randolph County Public Health announced that as of Wednesday, April 19th, 2023, the WIC office will be relocating to Northgate Shopping Center at 1461 North Fayetteville Street, in Asheboro. The Northgate Shopping Center is also home to the County Board of Elections, Asheboro Police Department Substation, and the Adult Day Reporting Center. WIC’s phone number and office hours (Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm) will remain the same. WIC will continue to provide services to its clients at the satellite clinic in Archdale on Thursdays. Randleman Woan Facing Felony Drug Trafficking Charges

ASHEBORO N.C. - A Randleman woman is facing multiple felony drug charges in two separate cases from last month according to the Sheriff's Office. On March 21st, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Team, assisted by the Vice and Narcotics Division, initiated a traffic stop on I-73 in Randleman. According to a press release, a vehicle driven by Tracey Canoy Corum was pulled over, a search was conducted, and a trafficking amount of heroin was located, along with amphetamine and US currency. Corum was transported to the Randolph County Jail where probable cause was found for the charges of two counts felony trafficking in heroin, as well as other drug charges. ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man is in jail after being charged with rape by the Sheriff's Office. On December 14, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a sexual crime. In a press release the Sheriff's Office says, "following a lengthy investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, charges were sought against Christopher James Hazelwood of Asheboro, for felony 2nd degree forcible rape." The Sheriff's Offices' Criminal Apprehension Team located Hazelwood, on March 29th, 2023, during the execution of a search warrant. Hazelwood was arrested and transported to the Randolph County Jail, where he was served the warrant. The magistrate issued a $150,000 secured bond. Hazelwood's next court date is set for May 10th, 2023, in Randolph County District Court. ...

ASHEBORO N.C. - A local man is facing criminal charges after the Sheriff's Office says he fired a gun out his car window following an argument. On March 19, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Branson Mill Rd., Randleman, in reference to an armed person. When deputies arrived, the victim told them that Abijah John Lewis II, had driven to his home and an argument ensued in the driveway, according to a press release. Police say as Lewis was backing out of the driveway, he fired a weapon out the driver’s side window. ASHEBORO NC - A local man with several warrants for breaking and entering and larceny was located and arrested by police last weekend. On March 25th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to Russell Walker Ave, in Randleman, after hearing a wanted suspect they were attempting to locate was in the area. When deputies arrived, they say they observed Ethan Wayne Stanley fleeing on foot. He was located hiding under an outbuilding and arrested. According to the Sheriff's Office, during a search following the arrest, marijuana and paraphernalia were in his possession. Stanley was issued a citation for marijuana before being transported to the Randolph County jail, where methamphetamine was located during the booking process. ASHEBORO NC - On March 28, 2023, at 7:00 a.m., all Randolph Health facilities will lift universal masking requirements for patients, visitors, and team members. In a press release, Randolph Health says the decision to make masks optional was made in collaboration with other regional healthcare systems, including Novant Health, Atrium Health, Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, CaroMont Health, and Cone Health. Masks were required during the COVID-19 pandemic and flu season, with this change everyone should consider their personal risk when considering masking up. ASHEBORO N.C. - A man found unconscious and laying in a driveway is facing charges after police say he drove there in a stolen vehicle. On January 13th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Mill Race Ct., in Sophia, after receiving a call about a possible overdose. The caller reported a male subject was unconscious in the driveway of the residence. When Deputies arrived, they say they located Robert Crumpton, unconscious and lying in the driveway. Deputies cleared the scene for Randolph County EMS who responded to the scene to render aid. (NC DOT) - State transportation officials are reminding people to stay off railroad property because it is illegal and dangerous. “Railroad property and tracks are for trains and are not for walking, jogging or any form of trespassing,” said Jason Orthner, director for the N.C. Department of Transportation’s Rail Division. “This time of year, students are also taking senior and prom pictures. ASHEBORO N.C. - Last week a manhunt triggered a massive police presence on the 64 Bypass near the Zoo Connector Rd. On March 3rd, 2023, around 5 p.m. deputies with the Randolph County Sheriff's Office observed Steven Wayne Golden, a wanted suspect, on a bicycle on Staley's Farm Rd, near the Zoo Connector and attempted to contact him. Golden attempted to flee on the bicycle but crashed into a guardrail on the bridge before fleeing on foot into a wooded area, leading to a manhunt and a massive police presence in the area. (NC ZOO) - The North Carolina Zoo is excited to officially announce its new male lion, Haji, has arrived.  Haji, three years old and weighing 400 pounds, came from the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans as a companion for the Zoo's female lion Mekita, 13. The Association of Zoos and Aquarium (AZA) Lions Species Survival Plan (SSP) recommended the pairing.   Mekita's last mate—23-year-old Reilly—died in August 2022, leaving her as the Zoo's only lion. Reilly lived at the Zoo for 21 years, spending most of his time as Mekita's mate.
