Grand Jury Indicts Man for Felony Sex Crimes with Minor

ASHEBORO N.C. - The Grand Jury has indicted a local man for multiple felonies involving sexual crimes with a minor. On December 29, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received information regarding allegations of sexual offenses involving minors. Following an investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, charges were sought against Christopher Lee Clark for two counts of felony indecent liberties with a child, two counts felony disseminate obscenity, six counts felony first degree statutory sex offense, and misdemeanor assault on a child under 12 years of age. (NC ZOO) - The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee and North Carolina Zoo are pleased to announce that African elephant Artie arrived at The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tennessee on Tuesday, January 31. Artie (Aardvark), a 40-year-old African male, was born in the wilds of Zimbabwe and brought to the United States in 1986 with a group of young elephants that were orphaned due to culling carried out by the Zimbabwe government. Artie arrived at North Carolina Zoo at the age of 15 years. ASHEBORO N.C. - Human remains found in Staley earlier this month have been identified as a missing person from 2021. On February 8th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Shady Grove Church Rd. in Staley after receiving a call that a citizen had located human remains while walking in a wooded area. According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, human remains along with identifying articles were recovered by investigators and sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for identification. On February 14th, 2023, the State Medical Examiner’s Office made a positive identification to be those of Steven Tyler Tuttle. ASHEBORO N.C. - A search warrant executed last month by the Randolph County Sheriff's Office found drugs and led to the arrest of one person. According to a press release, on January 20th, 2023, the Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Division searched a residence at 935 Teresa Way in Asheboro. During the search, detectives located and seized Methamphetamine, Fentanyl, Suboxone and items of drug paraphernalia. As a result, Pamela Beth McDuffie was transported to Randolph County Jail where she was booked on multiple felony drug charges. She was given a $40,000.00 secured bond with a court date scheduled for January 23, 2023, in Randolph County District Court. More charges may be forthcoming on additional individuals. According to an online press release, on January 29th, 2023, the Sheriff Office's Criminal Investigations Division was called to investigate vandalism that occurred at the Randolph County Courthouse on Salisbury Street in Asheboro. Video surveillance of the incident captured the perpetrator, described as a black male, wearing black in color pants, a gray sweatshirt, red sneakers/boots, and a tan in color toboggan throwing rocks through several of the windows. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff's Office has made two arrests in two separate cases after receiving information regarding allegations of sexual offenses involving minors. On January 13th, 2023, the Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Detectives brought charges against Bernard Joseph McSweeney for four counts of felony disseminating obscenities. ASHEBORO N.C. - A crash this morning has left one dead after a driver crashed head-on into another vehicle while traveling the wrong way on I-73/74. At approximately 10:10 AM, on January 31, 2023, officers with the Asheboro Police Department responded to reports of traffic crash on I-73 North of McDowell Road. Callers reported seeing a white Nissan Frontier traveling North in the Southbound Lane of I-73 immediately before the crash. When emergency personnel arrived on scene, they discovered that the Nissan Frontier had struck a Toyota Tacoma that was traveling Southbound. The driver of the Nissan Frontier, a 94-year-old male, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
