ASHEBORO N.C. - Smoke from Canadian wildfires is bringing hazing conditions across North Carolina and triggering air quality alerts, again. The Forsyth County Office of Environmental Assistance and Protection, located in Winston-Salem, has issued a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for Fine Particles until midnight on Monday, July 17. Randolph County falls into this area. As of 3 p.m. PM 2.5 levels, which describes fine inhalable particles, with diameters that are 2.5 micrometers and smaller, were at 123 ppb (parts per billion) at the closest air quality monitoring station to Randolph County. Bomb Threat Closes Ramseur Dollar General Early

Photo provided by Dollar General RAMSEUR N.C. - Earlier this week a bomb threat closed the Dollar General in Ramseur early and now police are asking anyone with information to contact them. On July 10th, 2023, Ramsuer Police and first responders were dispatched to the Dollar General Store located at 6493 Jordan Rd. According to police, an unknown subject called into the store requesting to speak with the manager who they told there was a bomb in a specific area of the store. Employees evacuated the store and called 911. Multiple searches of the store were conducted by officers and nothing suspicious was located. The business closed early due to the incident. Anyone who has any information regarding this incident is asked to contact Sgt Cox or Detective Zogopoulos.

Monday will start off nice with partly to mostly sunny skies and a high reaching near 90 degrees, but an approaching cold front is expected to arrive sometime around 3pm in the afternoon. ASHEBORO N.C. - After a week of nice weather, a low-pressure system off the coast is promising to bring rain for most of the holiday weekend. According to the National Weather Service Office in Raleigh, an area of low pressure off the Southeast coast will move into the Carolinas over the weekend. Widespread rain, possibly heavy at times, will develop on Saturday and continue into Sunday. This may result in flooding of low lying or poor drainage areas. ASHEBORO N.C. - The National Weather Service Office in Raleigh has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook with severe storms expected Tuesday afternoon and into the evening. According to forecasters, strong to severe thunderstorms are possible across much of the Piedmont of North Carolina this afternoon and evening, with the highest risk over the Triad region, including all of Randolph County. Some storms may produce damaging winds over 60 mph, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. The greatestthreat will occur between 3 PM and 10 PM. ASHEBORO N.C. - A call about a suspicious vehicle turned into a pursuit that ended with a teen in jail facing a list of felony charges. On May 5th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says they responded to the area of Allred St. and West Main St., Franklinville, for a report of a suspicious vehicle. The caller provided a description of the occupants of the vehicle who had pulled over and were walking in the area. When deputies arrived, they spotted a male subject standing on the passenger side of the vehicle. "When the deputy turned on the vehicle spotlights, the male ran around the vehicle, entered the driver’s seat and drove off. According to an announcement on Facebook, starting today, April 3, 2023, the Town of Ramseur will be smoke testing all sanitary sewer lines in this area to locate defects in the sewer system. "The "smoke" that you see coming from the vent stacks on houses or holes in the ground or streets is non-toxic, harmless and creates no fire hazard. On January 10th, 2023, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Office SRO responded after staff at Ramseur Elementary School reported an irate parent at the school. While the SRO was responding, Randolph County 911 received a call where the caller claimed that someone had fired a weapon into the school. According to the Sheriff's Office, the SRO arrived and parked in front of the door and was met by the irate parent, who they identified as Brittany Desha Andrews. ASHEBORO N.C. - A wanted man is facing multiple charges after authorities say while attempting to flee from deputies the suspect rammed a patrol car before almost crashing into a home earlier this week. According to a press release, on December 26th, 2022, Deputies with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office were searching the Ramseur/Liberty areas for Jimmy Ray Pearson, who had multiple outstanding warrants. A deputy observed Pearson's vehicle traveling north on Ramseur Julian Rd. Additional deputies responded and a traffic stop was initiated but Pearson refused to stop and continued on Colonial Trading Path.
