ASHEBORO N.C. – Two men are facing charges for assaulting first responders earlier this week and the dangerous incident highlights the hazards first responders can face. On January 7th, 2024, at around 6 a.m. Randolph County 911 received a 911 hang-up with yelling in the background. Operators were attempting to call the number back, when around three-minutes later, another 911 call came in from a neighbor stating that a male subject had come running into their residence covered in blood saying he had been assaulted by someone he lived with. Photo from Westside Fire & Rescue via Facebook ASHEBORO N.C. - No one was seriously injured after several accidents, involving more than a dozen vehicles, resulted in I-73/74 south being temporarily shut down overnight.  According to a post by Westside Fire & Rescue on Facebook, at 5:44 p.m. on Monday, November 27th, 2023, emergency crews responded to assist Highway Patrol after debris fell off of a truck on Interstate 73/74 south, near Vision Drive.  When the first units arrived, they located a four-vehicle accident in the southbound lanes of I-73/74 at Spero Rd with only minor injuries.  That accident resulted in the southbound lanes being shut down.  Westside Fire & Rescue’s unit Rescue 13, which was also responding to the initial accident,...

This morning at around 10 a.m. emergency crews from Guil-Rand and Sophia Fire Departments along with Randolph County EMS responded to I-74 E near Cedar Square Rd for a report of a vehicle off the roadway. On Friday, July 28th, 2023, at around 7:30 pm, emergency crews were called to the scene of a vehicle collision where a pedestrian was struck on E Dixie Dr near Zaxby's. According to an accident report from the Asheboro Police Department, a 2005 Nissan SUV was traveling west on E Dixie Dr near Executive Way when a pedestrian stepped into the roadway and was struck by the vehicle. The 28-year-old male victim sustained serious injuries and was transported by the scene by Randolph County EMS to the helipad at Randolph Hospital where they were air-lifted by Baptist AirCare to a local trauma center. According to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, at approximately 5:00 pm deputies responded to awelfare check on Cable Creek Rd., in Asheboro. A press release says when deputies arrived a male subject exited the residence with a firearm before retreating into the residence, then fleeing out the back on foot, still armed. RANDLEMAN N.C. - A bicyclist was airlifted in critical condition this evening after being struck while crossing the street in front of Sir Pizza in Randleman. According to officials on the scene at 6:42 pm Randolph County 911 dispatched the Randleman Police and Fire Departments along with Randolph County EMS to 413 S Main St. A 911 caller reported a bicyclist who was crossing the street was struck by a vehicle. Randleman firefighters arrived on scene at 6:45 pm, just 3 minutes after they were dispatched, and the victim was transported to the practice field located behind Randleman High School where UNC Air Care landed to pick up the patient. ASHEBORO N.C. - The arrival of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) ambulances and paramedics is helping to ease the strain Randolph County EMS is feeling from high call volumes and staffing problems. Three ambulances with a total of 6 crew of EMTs and paramedics arrived in Randolph County late last week on February 3rd. “We applied a month or so ago when we found out there was another allocation being sent to the state.” Said Jared Byrd, Deputy Director at Randolph County Emergency Services in an email. On the morning of Saturday January 29th 2022, a winter storm dropped 1-2” of snow across Randolph County and plunged temperatures into the teens. At around 07:00 am, a worker at Northpointe Assisted Living Facility on Pineview Rd in Randleman called 911 after finding 89-year-old Thelma Lorraine Armstrong Wray collapsed on the ground outside. She had no pulse and was not breathing. The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release today that on the morning of Sunday November 21st, 2021, a deputy in the area of US 220 Bus S, near New Hope Church Rd saw a large amount of black smoke coming from Drum St. When that deputy arrived they reported a mobile home was on fire. ASHEBORO NC (ACME NEWS) – A head on collision sent several people to the hospital and now police are looking for a the driver of one of the vehicles who fled the scene on foot. At 5:39 PM on Friday October 15th 2021, Randolph County 9-1-1 received more than half a dozen calls about a vehicle crash between two vehicles on Old Liberty Rd near Central Falls Rd. Asheboro Police and Fire departments along with Randolph County EMS and later Ash-Rand EMS were dispatched. In total 4 Ambulances (3 from Randolph County EMS and 1 from Ash-Rand) responded to the accident.
