[Scott Pelkey | North State Journal] ASHEBORO N.C.- A driver was seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident on I-73/74 late Monday night that shutdown the interstate for nearly three hours. Just after 10:30 p.m. Asheboro Fire/Rescue Department, Randolph County EMS, Asheboro Police, and the Randolph County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer on I-73/74 northbound, near the Sunset Ave exit. The State Highway Patrol was also notified of the crash and Troopers responded to investigate. In a press release, the Highway Patrol says that Abdelaleem Mustafa Alnagar, 23, of Colfax, N.C., was stopped on the northbound shoulder of I-73/74 in a 2014 Jeep Wrangler. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff's Office's Highway Criminal Interdiction Team arrested a New York man last week after they say the located over $10,000 of stolen items in the vehicle. According to a press release, on October 6th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Highway Criminal Interdiction Team conducted a traffic stop on I-85 in Archdale. During that stop deputies were able to search the vehicle and say they located marijuana, several fraudulent identity cards, and over $10,000 in fraudulently purchased power equipment. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff's Office says they have arrested a registered sex offender who was on school grounds in Randolph County several times late last month. According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, on September 26th, 2023, the Sheriff’s Office's Sex Offender Registry Detective was notified that Michael Delano Foster of Davidson County, a registered sex offender, had been on school grounds in Randolph County. According to the NC State Bureau of Investigations Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry, Foster was convicted in 2006 for two sexual offenses involving a minor under the age of thirteen in Guilford County. RANDLEMAN N.C. - A Virginia woman has been arrested and is facing felony trafficking charges after police say the located over eight pounds of heroin in her vehicle. On September 30th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Team conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 73/74 in Randleman. According to a press release, during that traffic stop deputies searched the vehicle and say they located and seized approximately 8 ½ pounds of heroin. The suspect, identified by the Sheriff's Office as Lori Kristen Price of Roanoke, VA, was arrested and transported to Randolph County Jail. ASHEBORO N.C. - This week the Randolph County Sheriff's Office Criminal Apprehension Team located and arrested a suspect from a vehicle pursuit that occurred back in July. According to a press release, on July 13th, 2023, a Deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office observed a vehicle with a fictitious tag and attempted to pull the vehicle over, but the driver fled leading to a vehicle pursuit. The Sherriff's Office says the driver continued at a high rate of speed and drove in the opposite lane of travel westbound on Lexington Rd. until the deputy lost sight of the vehicle. The Sheriff's Office says they have received multiple reports of someone calling citizens in the county pretending to be a Deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, stating the individual missed a mandated appearance for Jury Duty and need to pay a fine to avoid being arrested. These scammers are using a technique called "spoofing" to make it appear that they are calling from the Sheriff's Office. ASHEBORO N.C. - The AMBER Alert for a kidnapped 9-year-old from Asheboro has been canceled after the child was located unharmed and the suspect arrested. According to a press release from the Asheboro Police Department, at approximately 6:38 am this morning, officers responded to a home on Powhatan Avenue in Asheboro, for a report of a kidnapping. A grandmother reported to police that Darrell Milton Boyd Jr. had entered the residence and left with her 9-year-old granddaughter. An AMBER Alert was issued, and an arrest warrant was issued for Boyd.
