Stolen Motorcycle Leads Police on Chase – Charges Catch up with Driver

ASHEBORO N.C. – Charges are catching up with the driver of a stolen motorcycle with active warrants who fled from police late last month.

In a press release the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says that on September 22nd, 2023, a deputy attempted to pull over a motorcycle on Turnpike Rd., in Archdale, but the driver failed to stop leading to a pursuit.

That chase continued to the intersection of Meadowbrook Road and Kennedy Road where the Sheriff’s Office says the driver slowed down and appeared to be turning right, before losing control and crashing into a ditch on Kennedy Road across from Meadowbrook Road.

The driver was located at the scene of the wreck lying on the ground and the Sheriff’s Office says the driver provided a false name, likely due to having outstanding warrants, before being transported to an area hospital for an evaluation.

Police determined that the motorcycle had been reported stolen from Greensboro, NC and that the tag did not belong on the vehicle.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to conduct the investigation into the accident.

Despite the false name initially provided, police later identified the driver as Frankie Leon Bowman. Charges were sought against Bowman and the magistrate found probable cause and issued a warrant.

On September 27, 2023, Bowman was located and arrested in Orange County. He was taken to the Orange County Detention Center where he was served the warrant for this incident and an outstanding warrant out of Randolph County issued by NCSHP for misdemeanor fictitious info to officer, misdemeanor resisting public officer, and failure to maintain lane control. The magistrate issued a $50,000 secured bond and a first appearance was set for October 2, 2023, in Randolph County District Court.

He was also served outstanding orders for arrest of Davidson County for two counts felony possession stolen motor vehicle, two counts felony obtain property by false pretense, felony common law robbery, felony possession of firearm by felon, misdemeanor escape local jail, felony possession/received stolen property, felony trafficking in methamphetamine, felony possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver methamphetamine, and misdemeanor
