ASHEBORO N.C.- One-stop early voting is now available at the Randolph County Board of Elections, 1457 N. Fayetteville St., Asheboro on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Municipal General Election is held to elect mayors and members of the local cities and towns governing boards for Asheboro, Franklinville, High Point, Liberty, Ramseur, Randleman, Seagrove, Staley and Thomasville, as well as the Asheboro Board of Education. The Randolph County Board of Election would like to remind voters of the following important information: Photo ID is required in North Carolina, beginning with the 2023 Municipal Election. ASHEBORO N.C. - A registered sex offender has been arrested and charged after the Sheriff's Office was notified he had been on school grounds. On October 12th, 2023, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Office SRO was notified that ChristopherTimothy Ward, a registered sex offender, had been on a school campus. Ward, who currently resides in Thomasville, was convicted in 2010 for two counts of Indecent Liberties with a Minor. Under NC law certain registered sex offenders are prohibited from being in, at, or near certain places. Delivery Driver Robbed at Knifepoint in Asheboro

ASHEBORO N.C. - Asheboro Police are investigating an armed robbery after a delivery driver was robbed at knife point late Sunday night. According to a report from the Asheboro Police Department, just after 10pm on October 15th, 2023, officers responded to Tucker St for a report of an armed robbery. The victim, a pizza delivery driver told officers that two black males had put a knife to his throat and robbed him of the pizzas he was delivering, his cell phone, and cash from his vehicle. Officials with the police department say the case is being investigated by the Criminal Investigations Division.

SOPHIA N.C. - A 2-year-old was injured Friday evening after getting ahold of a firearm and accidently shooting themself in the leg, says the Randolph County Sheriff's Office. On Friday October 13th, 2023, just after 6 p.m., deputies responded to a home in Sophia for an accidental gunshot wound. The Sheriff's Office says that a 2-year-old child "grabbed their father’s pistol and accidentally pulled the trigger while the whole family was in their vehicle on their farm/land." The condition of the child is unknown at this time other than that they suffered a superficial wound to their leg. The Sheriff's Office is still investigating the incident and no further information is available currently.

[Scott Pelkey | North State Journal] ASHEBORO N.C.- A driver was seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident on I-73/74 late Monday night that shutdown the interstate for nearly three hours. Just after 10:30 p.m. Asheboro Fire/Rescue Department, Randolph County EMS, Asheboro Police, and the Randolph County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a two-vehicle accident involving a tractor trailer on I-73/74 northbound, near the Sunset Ave exit. The State Highway Patrol was also notified of the crash and Troopers responded to investigate. In a press release, the Highway Patrol says that Abdelaleem Mustafa Alnagar, 23, of Colfax, N.C., was stopped on the northbound shoulder of I-73/74 in a 2014 Jeep Wrangler. According to a press release from the Highway Patrol, at 7:41 a.m. on Thursday, October 12th, 2023, Troopers responded to the report of a crash involving an elementary school bus operated by Randolph County School System at the intersection of Edgar Road at Pliney Farlow Road. Troopers say their investigation found that the driver of a Hoda Civic attempted to make a left turn from Pliney Farlow Road onto Edgar Road but failed to yield for the bus causing the vehicles to collide at the intersection. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff's Office's Highway Criminal Interdiction Team arrested a New York man last week after they say the located over $10,000 of stolen items in the vehicle. According to a press release, on October 6th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Highway Criminal Interdiction Team conducted a traffic stop on I-85 in Archdale. During that stop deputies were able to search the vehicle and say they located marijuana, several fraudulent identity cards, and over $10,000 in fraudulently purchased power equipment.
