CSI Crime Scene ( prathaan/Adobe Stock) ASHEBORO N.C. - Asheboro Police are investigating after an altercation led to shots being fired on Martin Luther King Jr Drive striking at least one vehicle and a home. A police report from the Asheboro Police Department shows that on January 10th 2022, at 5:07 P.M. officers responded to the 900 block of Martin Luther King Jr Dr after getting calls about multiple shots fired in the area. A total of 6 officers with both the Patrol and Special Enforcement Team (SET) responded to the area. The Asheboro Copperheads announced the re-branding this week, Starting immediately the team will be the Asheboro ZooKeepers. The website for the team has already made the switch, including a special site just for announcing the name change.The teams colors which were burnt orange and black are changing to khaki, brown, black, and jungle green. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Asheboro Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its own today. Chris Hoover was with the department for 24 years rising to the rank of Battalion Chief while also a member of the Tabernacle Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years, and Ash-Rand Rescue. Hoover sadly lost his battle with COVID-19 on January 8th 2022. On Sunday firefighters with Asheboro made the trip up to UNC Medical Center to bring back his casket. ASHEBORO N.C. (ACME NEWS) – One person is dead today after shots rang out at a party late last night in Randleman. What we have learned today is that on January 8th 2022, a private party was being held at a residence on Leonae Drive in Randleman. At around 10:30 p.m. approximately 20 people who weren't invited showed up and just an hour and fifteen minutes later at 11:45 p.m., a fight broke out in the front yard. During that fight multiple gunshots were fired by an unknown subject. The shooter fled the scene along with most of the guests immediately following the shooting. A flood of 911 calls came in and at 11:58 p.m. the Randolph County Sheriff’s office along with fire and EMS responded to the scene. ASHEBORO N.C. — As fast as it came, it left. After a week of unusually warm weather, rain, strong winds and the first snowfall of the year brought headaches throughout Randolph County. The system responsible for todays snow was expected to drop some wintery mix mostly in the northern parts of the triad turned out to be stronger than expected according to Scotty Powell, a Meteorologist with Carolina Weather Group. "So the precipitation was a little heavier which allowed colder air to the surface. So that is why some areas was able to see snow that wasn't necessarily supposed to" said Powell. Overnight heavy rains and high winds downed trees and knocked out power. While the snow continues to fall, rain and high winds are the primary concern today. A Wind Advisory remains in effect for Randolph County until 4 p.m. Monday. According to a forecast from the National Weather Service in Raleigh, Sunday highs are expected to be around 69° F with lows Sunday night plunging down to 32° F. Monday forecasters are calling for a 30% chance of rain and/or snow followed by sunny conditions with a high of 45° F. ASHEBORO N.C. — A convicted felon was arrested yesterday in Thomasville in connection with a November assault where the Sheriff’s Office says the he broke into a home, assaulted the victim, and tied them up. The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says in a press release that on November 17th 2021, their deputies were called to a home on Pisgah Covered Bridge Rd. in Asheboro after getting a call from a victim who said they had escaped being tied up at the home. The victim stated they knew the suspect and identified him as Kevin Andrew Blue. According to police Blue broke into the home, assaulted the victim and tied them up. ASHEBORO N.C. —A domestic disturbance that started when a Winston-Salem man man rammed another car and stabbed another male ended with him in jail facing attempted murder charges. The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says Wednesday night at approximately 9:00 pm, deputies were called to what started out as a vehicle accident where a car had struck a pedestrian on Loflin Hill Road in Trinity. That quickly changed to a domestic situation where one person was armed with a knife. Randolph County 911 advised for Fire and EMS to stay at a safe distance until deputies were able to ensure the scene was safe. When deputies arrived they located two males and a female.
