ASHEBORO NC – A man is facing dozens of felony charges after he was arrested in connection with a string of vehicle break-ins across Randolph County. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office they received multiple calls during the first few weeks of August about vehicle break-ins in the Trinity, Thomasville and north-west Asheboro areas. They say their investigation led them to charge Franklin Lee Allen for 19 Counts of Felony Breaking or Entering into a Motor Vehicle, Felony Larceny of Firearm, Felony Possession of Stolen Firearm, 10 Counts of Misdemeanor Larceny, and 10 Counts of Misdemeanor Possession of Stolen Goods/Property. ASHEBORO NC — It was quite the weekend for a local family after fire and rescue crews were called to help free a horse from a muddy pond. According to information from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office on October 2, 2021, a deputy tried to pull over a vehicle on Hwy 311 near Shean Dr in Archdale. Police say the driver immediately sped off starting a vehicle pursuit. The chase left 311 on to Tom Hill Rd then on to Trinity Rd. and NC HWY 62. That's when police say the driver lost control of the vehicle near the 5200 block of NC HWY 62 leaving the roadway and colliding with trees. ASHEBORO NC – The Randolph County Public Health announced today that they are now scheduling booster appointments for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. The department is following the CDC guidelines which recommends vaccine boosters for the following groups. Individuals 65 years and older or residents in long-term care settingsIndividuals aged 50-64 with certain underlying conditionsIndividuals aged 18-49 with certain underlying conditionsIndividuals aged 18-64 at high risk to COVID-19 exposure due to occupational or institutional setting The Pfizer single booster vaccine has to be given at least six months after the second dose. Everyone from our vendors, attendees, sponsors, and downtown merchants have been affected by this pandemic. Ongoing discussions have been difficult and complex. Sadly, we have ultimately decided that it is in the best interest of the community to cancel the 2021 Fall Festival, October 2 – 3, 2021, due to COVID-19 for the second year in a row. According to a press release by the The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, their Criminal Investigation Division Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) received a tip that an individual by the name of Ethan William Colbert was distributing child pornography and that he was engaged in sexual relationships with juvenile females. On August 16th, 2021, Deputies received a call about a missing/runaway child. The Sheriff’s office says that the child was located with Colbert. ASHEBORO NC - A driver and three children are at the hospital this morning after an accident involving a school bus in Davidson County. According to the NC Highway Patrol the accident occured at around 7:30 AM on Highway 109 near Mount Zion Church Road. Troopers say it appears that a driver crossed the center line and struck a school bus for Uwharrie Charter Academy head on. Seven children were on the bus at the time of the crash, and three of those were taken to the hospital, and are with family at this time. The driver of the passenger car was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Troopers have cleared the scene and Hwy 109 is back open at this time. According to a press release by the NC Highway Patrol, at 6:53 PM on Sunday, September 19th, 2021, troopers responded to the report of a crash that occurred on I-85 near Hopewell Church Road in Randolph County. Troopers say a single vehicle traveled off the roadway to the left, went down into the median and overturned. The vehicle then traveled across all southbound lanes of I-85 and came to rest on the southbound shoulder of the interstate.
