A vehicle crash has shutdown I-73/74 in both directions near exit 66 (New Hope Church Rd). Map from DriveNC According to drivenc.gov a vehicle crash between mile-marker 68 and 69 has shutdown traffic on I-73/74 in both directions in Randolph County at Mile Marker 12, Near Seagrove / New Hope Church Road. Current estimates say the interstate may not reopen until 5 p.m. We are still reaching out to authorities for details of the crash and no information is currently available. According to photos published by Alex Perdue News on Facebook traffic is being diverted off the highway at exit 68 New Hope Church Rd on the southbound lanes. Man Facing Murder Charge in Seagrove Death

SEAGROVE N.C. - A suspect is being held without bond at the Randolph County Jail facing a felony murder charge, according to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office. On January 23, 2024, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) responded to Osborn Mill Rd., Seagrove, in reference to a reported trespassing. Upon arrival, a male subject was located with obvious injuries; including gunshot wounds. The responding deputy began CPR and requested Randolph County EMS. The victim was pronounced deceased on scene and RCSO Detectives began a death investigation. The victim was identified as Richard Andrew Green, II. ASHEBORO N.C. – The National Weather Service in Raleigh is warning that an arctic air mass will bring frigid temperatures tonight and into Wednesday, with more dangerously cold temperatures and the threat of winter weather later this week. According to forecasters at the National Weather Service in Raleigh, a cold front will move across the region today bringing cold rain. Behind that cold front an arctic air will move into central North Carolina mass bringing frigid air and gusty winds of 15 to 20 mph tonight. Here in Randolph County, temperatures tonight and into Wednesday morning will plunge to 17 degrees, with windchill values reaching as low as 7 degrees, and that’s just round one. ASHEBORO N.C. - The National Weather Service Office in Raleigh has issued a Freeze Watch for Randolph County for Late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning with temperatures expected to dip into the low 30's. According to forecasters at the National Weather Service Office in Raleigh, a cold front will move through the region tonight, followed by light rain from an upper disturbance overnight through Tuesday evening. High pressure will then build into the area behind the cold front, bringing the coldest air so far this season. Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 possible in Randolph and surrounding counties late Tuesday night through Wednesday morning. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff's Office says a recent narcotics investigation in Seagrove led to the seizure of eight pounds of cocaine and the arrest of one suspect. According to a press release from the Sheriff's Office, on September 11, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Unit concluded an investigation related to the distribution of Cocaine in the Seagrove area ofRandolph County. That investigation led to Detectives locating and seizing approximately eight pounds of Cocaine and arrested Octavius Cornelius Spinks at a residence on Osborne Mill Rd. ASHEBORO N.C. - Charges are stacking up against a suspect with several active warrants who fled on foot from deputies and was located hiding in a crawlspace by a police K9. According to a press release, on July 13th, 2023, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Detective in the area of Erect Rd., Seagrove, observed a male subject acting suspicious. Upon the detective pulling into the driveway of the residence the male fled on foot. The detective was advised that the male was James Henry Bolton-McKee, who had active warrants for his arrest. ASHEBORO N.C. - The Randolph County Sheriff's Office has charged two individuals with nine counts of felony cruelty to animals after Animal Services allegedly found malnourished and dead dogs on their property. According to a press release by the Sheriff's Office, On July 12th, 2023, the Sheriff’s Office responded to assist Randolph County Animal Services who had responded to a call about an aggressive dog on Searcy Rd. Ext, in Seagrove. Animal Control Officer had located abandoned and malnourished dogs outside of the home; two of which were deceased. The caller had also reported there were multiple dogs inside the residence that no one was taking care of.
