SEAGROVE N.C. - One person was arrested after a short vehicle chase ended in a crash in Seagrove last week. According to J. Auman Chief of Police for the Seagrove Police Department, just after 2 p.m. on July 17th, 2023, while on patrol in the town, he ran a tag on a vehicle that came back as ficticious. Chief Auman says when he attempted to pull over the driver on Little River Road near Boone Farm Rd, the suspect failed to yield, leading to a brief vehicle pursuit. The chase ended after only around one mile when the driver lost control and crashed into an embankment while making a turn from Little River Rd on to Old Troy Rd. ASHEBORO N.C. - Forecasters are warning that dangerously hot temperatures are expected across much of central North Carolina later this week and into the weekend. Starting Wednesday and into Thursday, heat and humidity will roll into the area with highs in the lower 90s and heat-index values reaching into the mid-90's. The real threat from dangerous heat starts on Friday and extends through Sunday. Heat advisory and/or warnings are expected during this time as hot temperatures combined with high humidity will push heat index values into the upper 90s to above 100 degrees over central NC, according to forecasters with the National Weather Service in Raleigh. Parents Charged with Felony Child Abuse after Death of Five-Year-Old in Seagrove

SEAGROVE N.C. - Two parents have been arrested and charged with felony child abuse after an investigation into the death of a five-year-old female in Seagrove according to the Randolph County Sheriff's Office. On July 24, 2023, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for service at Needhams Trail in Seagrove, for a welfare check. Patrol deputies located a deceased female juvenile five years of age. Detectives and investigators responded and began an investigation and collected evidence. That investigation led to the arrest of Christina Ashley Myers and Billy Gene Myers, the parents of the decedent.  Christina and Billy Myers were taken to the Randolph County Jail where the magistrate found probable cause for the charge of felony child abuse. SEAGROVE N.C. - A Seagrove man is facing multiple charges related to cruelty to animal following a joint investigation by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded and Randolph County Animal Services. On June 5th, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded with Randolph County Animal Services to Little Beane Store Road in Seagrove, to a reported animal cruelty incident.  The Sheriff's Office sent out Crime Scene Investigation and Criminal Investigations to collect evidence for Randolph County Animal Services. According to a press release, the investigation led to Randolph County Animal Services seizing the dogs on the property and identified Keontai Javon McKenzie as a suspect.  McKenzie was charged with felony kill animal by starvation. ASHEBORO N.C. - Smoke from Canadian wildfires is bringing hazing conditions across North Carolina and triggering air quality alerts, again. The Forsyth County Office of Environmental Assistance and Protection, located in Winston-Salem, has issued a Code Orange Air Quality Action Day for Fine Particles until midnight on Monday, July 17. Randolph County falls into this area. As of 3 p.m. PM 2.5 levels, which describes fine inhalable particles, with diameters that are 2.5 micrometers and smaller, were at 123 ppb (parts per billion) at the closest air quality monitoring station to Randolph County. Monday will start off nice with partly to mostly sunny skies and a high reaching near 90 degrees, but an approaching cold front is expected to arrive sometime around 3pm in the afternoon. One Arrested in Connection with Burglary of Seagrove Business

SEAGROVE N.C. - One person has been arrested in connection with the burglary of a business in Seagrove. On June 15, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary in the Seagrove area where a business had been entered and property was taken. According to the Sheriff's Office, Detectives arrived on scene and were able to locate evidence, which led them to a residence on Borough Ave, in Seagrove. With the assistance of the Seagrove Police Department, Detectives approached the residence and spoke with the occupants which led to a search. That search found evidence of the burglary as well as the stolen property from the business. ASHEBORO N.C. - After a week of nice weather, a low-pressure system off the coast is promising to bring rain for most of the holiday weekend. According to the National Weather Service Office in Raleigh, an area of low pressure off the Southeast coast will move into the Carolinas over the weekend. ASHEBORO N.C. - The National Weather Service Office in Raleigh has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook with severe storms expected Tuesday afternoon and into the evening. According to forecasters, strong to severe thunderstorms are possible across much of the Piedmont of North Carolina this afternoon and evening, with the highest risk over the Triad region, including all of Randolph County. Some storms may produce damaging winds over 60 mph, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. The greatestthreat will occur between 3 PM and 10 PM. In addition, isolated flooding is possible where multiple storms pass repeatedly over the same areas. The Storm Prediction Center has placed this area at a Level 2 (out of 5) risk of severe storms.
