ASHEBORO N.C. - A search warrant at a home in Seagrove last month located drugs, cash and two guns and led to the arrest of one person who is now facing felony trafficking charges. On March 29, 2023, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Division concluded an investigation related to the distribution of narcotics in Randolph County. Detectives, along with the Criminal Interdiction Team and the Seagrove Police Department, executed a search warrant at a residence located on Auman St. in Seagrove, according to a press release from the Sheriff's Office. MJ Auman, a firefighter with the Seagrove Fire Dept, died of a fatal gunshot wound on June 25th, 2022. An investigation by the Randolph County Sheriff's Office led to charges against the wife Heather Auman who has been confined at the Randolph County Jail without bond, facing a charge of first-degree murder since June 29th, 2022. The state recently declined to purse a capital case, taking the death penalty off the table, and allowing the defense attorneys for Auman to submit a monition for bond, which was held on Monday, February 6th, 2023. ASHEBORO N.C. - The owner of a vehicle was arrested on felony drug charges after three juveniles took his vehicle from a party to get more alcohol and were stopped by deputies and troopers in Seagrove on Sunday. According to a press release from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, on January 8, 2023, deputies conducted a traffic stop on NC HWY 705 and Lawrence Farm Rd., in Seagrove. During the investigation, it was determined that the three underage juvenile occupants had been at a party in the area. A search of the vehicle located a firearm, twenty-seven individually packaged and sealed oil cartridges containing THC/CBD, marijuana, and psilocybin psychedelic mushrooms. ASHEBORO N.C. - A man who was already on house arrest for felony larceny charges was arrested last week after deputies say they stopped him on a stolen excavator which he was operating under the influence. On September 14, 2022, at approximately 3:00 am, a Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Deputy on US Hwy 220 S near Seagrove conducted a traffic stop on a Kubota excavator traveling north bound from the Seagrove area. The male driver, whom the Sheriff's Office identified as Tony Eugene Hiatt, was not provide information that he owned the excavator and according to a press release he appeared to be under the influence. Rona Lee Brown According to information released by the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, during the February session of the Randolph County Grand Jury, a True Bill of Indictment was issued on Rona Lee Brown following an investigation by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office Vice Unit which say they seized approximately 59 grams of Methamphetamine. The indictment issued for Brown was for Felony Trafficking in Methamphetamine (2 Counts) and Felony Possession with Intent to Manufacture/Sell/Deliver Schedule II Controlled Substance. ASHEBORO N.C. - Forecasters with the National Weather Service in Raleigh have issued a hazardous weather outlook warning of possible severe thunderstorms, strong winds, and localized flooding for Wednesday. Almost all of central North Carolina including the Triad was placed under a level 2 "slight risk" by the Storm Prediction Center. Meteorologist say Wednesday afternoon, likely around 3 pm, is when they expect to see the greatest threat of severe weather.
