At 5:57 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8th, 2023, the State Highway Patrol responded to the report of a crash that occurred on US 220 Business at Industrial Park Avenue in Randolph County. An 18-year-old driver of a 2022 Honda Accord passenger vehicle was traveling north on US 220 Business when they attempted to make a left turn onto Industrial Park Avenue from US 220. Chase Logan Fritz, 24, of Asheboro, N.C., was traveling south on US 220 Business operating a 2022 Kawasaki motorcycle and collided with the turning vehicle in the intersection. Fritz died on-scene. ASHEBORO N.C. - A crash this morning has left one dead after a driver crashed head-on into another vehicle while traveling the wrong way on I-73/74. At approximately 10:10 AM, on January 31, 2023, officers with the Asheboro Police Department responded to reports of traffic crash on I-73 North of McDowell Road. Callers reported seeing a white Nissan Frontier traveling North in the Southbound Lane of I-73 immediately before the crash. When emergency personnel arrived on scene, they discovered that the Nissan Frontier had struck a Toyota Tacoma that was traveling Southbound. The driver of the Nissan Frontier, a 94-year-old male, was pronounced deceased at the scene. ASHEBORO N.C. - A woman is facing a slew of charges after police say she fled from them after they tried to pull her vehicle over to investigate a report of a female being forced out of a vehicle. In a press release this week the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says that on June 7, 2022, a deputy was in the area of Caraway Mtn. Rd, near Asheboro, conducting an investigation, when a driver approached to report seeing a female being forced out of a vehicle on Caraway Mtn. Road. Deputies located that female, who was observed exiting the vehicle earlier on Caraway Mtn. Rd., and transported her to an area hospital for evaluation. ASHEBORO N.C. - On July 6th a marked patrol vehicle from the Randolph County Sheriff's Office and a City of Asheboro utility vehicle were involved in a crash in Asheboro. On July 6th 2022, just before 11:30am, Asheboro Police and Fire Departments were called to the scene of a vehicle accident on N Fayetteville St near the Big Dipper restaurant. In that accident a marked patrol car from the Randolph County Sheriff's Office and a pickup truck belonging to the City of Asheboro had collided as the patrol car was making a left hand turn across traffic. ASHEBORO N.C. (NC SHP) – Two cars stopped after a minor crash on I-73/74 this morning were struck by a third vehicle bringing the early morning commute on the interstate to a crawl. According to a press release from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NC SHP), at 7:26 am on Friday, May 6th 2022, troopers responded to the report of a crash that occurred on I-73 (southbound) near Presnell Street in Randolph County. The NC SHP was already sending Troopers to another accident in the southbound lanes of I-73, inside Asheboro City limits. That first accident had started to backup traffic on the interstate. ASHEBORO N.C. — A vehicle chase involving a suspect driving a stolen vehicle in Asheboro last Saturday ended after that suspect crashed, ran from police before being caught and was arrested. According to information from the Asheboro Police Department Officer Bym attempted to pull over a 2015 Red Kia Rio which had been reported stolen to the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office. Police say the vehicle failed to stop and attempted to flee starting a vehicle pursuit. That pursuit only went for 6.2 miles before ending after the vehicle crashed near a home in the 3500 block of NC Hwy 42. The suspect was able to flee on foot but was arrested after a short foot chase. Police identified the suspect as 29 year-old Hunter Nichols from Franklinville. According to information from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office on October 2, 2021, a deputy tried to pull over a vehicle on Hwy 311 near Shean Dr in Archdale. Police say the driver immediately sped off starting a vehicle pursuit. The chase left 311 on to Tom Hill Rd then on to Trinity Rd. and NC HWY 62. That's when police say the driver lost control of the vehicle near the 5200 block of NC HWY 62 leaving the roadway and colliding with trees.
