One Injured In Fiery Single Vehicle Accident

TRINITY NC – One person was taken to the hospital after being involved in a single vehicle accident where the car flipped over and caught fire.

Randolph County 911 received the first call about the accident at 1:19 PM on Nov 1st 2021. Callers reported a single vehicle accident on Covered Bridge Rd near Harris Rd in Trinity. They told dispatchers that a car had flipped over and was smoking. The sole occupant of the vehicle was a pregnant female who was able to safely get out. When firefighters arrived the car was fire and the fire had spread to a wooded area next the embankment. Randolph County EMS transported the female to a local hospital. The driver suffered minor injuries as a result of the collision and was transported to Moses H. Cone Hospital in Greensboro.

Troopers with the NC Highway Patrol responded to investigate. In a statement they identified the driver as Nautica Lane from Asheboro. They say Lane was traveling south on Covered Bridge Road when she traveled off the roadway to the right, overcorrected, and traveled off the roadway to the left. The vehicle struck an embankment on the east shoulder, overturned and caught fire. Lane was cited with failure to maintain lane control.

Covered Bridge Rd was closed for just over an hour and a half as Troopers conducted an investigation and crews worked to remove the vehicle.
