ASHEBORO N.C. – The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office along with the SBI is investigating the death of an inmate earlier this month at the Randolph County Jail.
On July 18th, 2022, shortly before 9:00 am, an inmate at the Randolph County Jail was found unresponsive by detention center staff conducting medical rounds.
According to a press release, medical staff and officers performed CPR until EMS arrived. The inmate was transported to Randolph Health where he was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.
The SBI has been notified of the incident and is investigating the death along with the Sheriff’s Office’s Criminal Investigations Division.
The body was transferred to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Raleigh for an autopsy which found that the inmate had several heart related issues; however, no cause of death was determined during the initial examination. The investigation is ongoing pending the results of the autopsy.
The name of the deceased male has not been released and no further information is available at this time.
