Man Suspected of Stealing 1,000 Gallons of Gas Charged by RCSO

ASHEBORO N.C. – A man from Bunnlevel is facing multiple felony charges after being charged with stealing 1,000 gallons of gasoline from a local gas station.

On July 9, 2022, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Handy Hugo gas station on Hwy 64 East in Asheboro in reference to a possible larceny/theft of fuel in progress. According to a press release, when deputies arrived, they noticed a white Chevrolet truck with a work bed sitting in the
parking lot of the gas station over the underground fuel tanks. A deputy spoke with an employee who told them the store had been a victim of larceny of 1,000 gallons of fuel from the underground tank between July 4th and 5th and that the same vehicle deputies were investigating in the parking lot was seen on video the dates of the theft and in the same location.

Deputies spoke with the driver, who was identified as Jeffrey Bryan Miller of Bunnlevel, NC, who according to the Sheriff’s Office Miller suffered a medical event and Randolph County EMS was called to evaluate and ended up transporting him to a local hospital.
 
During the investigation of the vehicle, a large tank was located in the bed with a black hose running to a compartment on the driver’s side of the bed. With the evidence the Criminal Investigations Division was able to obtain a warrant for Miller for Felony Larceny and Felony Possession of Stolen Goods. He was also charged with carrying a concealed weapon, for brass knuckles found prior to his transport by EMS.  
 
On August 19, 2022, Miller was located and served the outstanding warrants by Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office. He was issued a $11,000 total unsecured bond and a court date was set for August 29, 2022, in Randolph County District Court.
