Sheriff’s Office Seeks Suspect in Asheboro Hit and Run [UPDATED]

ASHEBORO N.C. – The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office is seeking help locating a suspect facing felony charges in connection with a hit and run accident early this morning in Asheboro.

According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, just after 4 a.m. on February 16th, 2024, deputies responded to Oakland Ave., Asheboro, for a reported hit-and-run involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.

The male victim was located unresponsive on the ground and the driver of the vehicle had fled the area.

EMS responded and the victim was airlifted to an area hospital. As of the time of publication, his current condition is unknown.

Following the initial investigation, the Sheriff’s charges sought charges against Lashanda Kay Schwarcbher, who also goes by Lashanda (Lashonda) Kay Hicks, for felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury and the magistrate issued a warrant for her arrest.

The Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming.


UPADTE – 2/18/24 3 P.M. – The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office says on February 17th, 2024, Lashanda Kay Schwarcbher, was arrested by the Criminal Apprehension Team on Robbin Lane, New London, NC. 

She was transported to the Randolph County Detention Center, where she was served her outstanding warrant for assualt with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury. Bond was denied pending a first appearance was set for February 19, 2024, in Randolph County District Court.

The victim, identified by the Sheriff’s Office as 45-year-old, Billy Glenn Medford, Jr., succumbed to his injuries on Saturday Feb 17th, 2024.

This investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be forthcoming.
