ASHEBORO N.C. – A suspect has been arrested in connection with the hit and run accident last week in Asheboro that left one person with serious injuries.
On Wednesday, March 13th, 2024, Troopers with the NC Highway Patrol responded to a crash on US 64 near Westbury Drive. Investigators say that a black 2017 Lexus RX 350 SUV passed a 2016 Toyota in a turning lane, resulting in a collision that sent the Toyota off the roadway to the right, striking an embankment, and a tree. The Lexus SUV fled the scene. The 38-year-old female driver of the Toyota was transported to Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital for serious injuries.
Following the crash, authorities asked for help from the public identifying the suspect vehicle and its driver. On March 19th, 2024, the NC Highway Patrol issued an update to its press release saying they had identified and arrested the suspected driver.
Silvano Perez Mejia, 53, of Asheboro N.C., was arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run involving serious injury, reckless driving, improper passing, and driving without an operator’s license.
A $25,000 unsecured bond was issued at the Randolph County Detention Center in Asheboro following the arrest.
