ASHEBORO NC – Today we learned that a Christmas wreath was likely to blame for 3 car accident on I-73/74 that shutdown the highway last weekend, causing congestion on US 220 from Randleman to Asheboro.

According to a report by the North Carolina Highway Patrol all three vehicles involved were traveling northbound on I-73. The driver of the lead vehicle slowed down, due to a Christmas wreath in the roadway. The car behind failed to reduce speed and collided with rear passenger side of the first car. The collision spun the lead car into the left lane. A third driver swerved off the roadway to avoid crashing into lead car.

The highway was shutdown as Troopers with the Highway Patrol investigated the accident. All traffic was detoured onto Pineview St. The extra traffic on US 220 caused delays and congestion from North Asheboro to Randleman. Delays lingered for almost an hour and a half after emergency crews cleared the scene.

Kailey Dean Moon, the driver of the vehicle that collided with slowing car was charged with failure to reduce speed. Everyone involved refused EMS care.
